Day 52, mid morning, Infirmary; Attn: Carson, Kate [f]

Mar 08, 2009 00:55

Wakefulness came, in spite of how much Radek wished it wouldn't. He tried holding it at bay by keeping his eyes shut, even as he heard footsteps moving about his room, and voices speaking in an adjacent room. His hopeless prayer was that it would all fade again, and he could ( somehow slip away... )

Carson took in Radek's reaction without much surprise. No doubt the other man was damning himself and didn't think himself worthy of care. While he didn't agree with Radek's actions, he didn't think him any less deserving of care and comfort. Keeping his voice steady and sure, he said, "Radek, I'm your friend as well as your doctor. I'm not making any judgments but I do need to see how you're doing."

Carson wasn't judging Radek. He only hoped that it was more of a mental issue then true malice because one could be worked with and forgiven. The other? Not so much.

"You know how I am doing," Radek muttered, curling tighter still. "You saw what I did. I am useless. I am... unreliable. There is nothing you can do for me."

Carson looked over Radek's form and thought Radek could use a med change. Something to get a better foundation for the distraught man. He would address this idea with Kate. "No Radek. I don't know how you're doing. What I know is that you're vitals are stable and that you shouldn't be feeling any affects from the stunner at this point. I know that you're not useless or unreliable but as for you're true state, I don't really know anything," his voice as sure and calm.

Carson's practiced reasonableness grated, like sand under his skin. Radek knew when he was being patronized, and having it come from a friend was even worse. What was there to know? It was useless to ask, and Radek could not help the resentment that boiled up from within him.

"Just leave me alone," he said. "There is nothing to be salvaged here."

Carson could hear Radek's irritation and considered it a progress of sorts. He wasn't trying to antagonize his patient but he couldn't leave him alone either. "Sorry but no. I can't and won't leave you alone. I think you've been quite alone for too long. As for salvaging, I can't say anything other then time and patience on all parts would be helpful," he still kept his voice calm. He wouldn't rise to the bait and he really didn't know what was running through the other man's mind.
