Awwww. I love this look at the younger Yangchen, and how she felt as she realized that her world would change forever. I especially loved the part where she is frightened because she can't see an all-powerful being, all she can see is a plain, teenage girl.
Oh my god, I can't believe I missed this before. I plead busyness -- which is true, but all the same. I love this so much! Yangchen as a girl, with the seeds of the Avatar she'll become but still an insecure and uncertain teenager. She feels very real.
And I love the reactions of her friends; I love that the ones who were close to her as an uncomplicated teenager don't know how to deal with her change in status, but that there's always the possibility of them figuring out how to reconcile it later. And I love that her rival's attitude isn't quite what Yangchen thinks it is -- because Yangchen is a kid, and she isn't perfectly insightful -- and that Je-Tsun is the one whose attitude doesn't shift much, and who's willing to say so.
I'm using "love" a lot, but that's because it's true. Thank you so much for this!
I really, really like this look at how things inevitably change for Yangchen - and how her rival is the one whose attitude stays the same. (What can I say, I am a sucker for frenemies stories!)
