There seemed to much more going on under the surface of daily life on Atlantis than Teyla was aware of. Usually she had always had a bead on the finer workings of the politics that governed the Earth-people's relations with each other, but her being away so frequently in the last months, and the side-effects of her budding relationship had clouded

At that, he chuckled.

"Well, that makes two of us."

[athoslantean]

"And how is he taking all of this, between you?"

[colonelinblack]

"Well... I mean, I think.." He offered a small, complacent smile. "We're happy, Teyla. And I think.. this could actually get serious. Or rather, it is. Um, serious."

[athoslantean]

She peered at him. "Do I dare ask how serious?"

[colonelinblack]

"I don't know. It's just that, I mean, we've been together three months and that's kind of a big deal so."

He bit his lip, unsure of how to explain. "Yeah."

"Three months...that is quite a long time." She was impressed. John Sheppard in a relationship for longer than a week was new.

She fell silent, not daring to voice the common addendum to such a comment by iterating how long she and Michael had been together.

"So... how long's it been for you guys?" he asked, voice light, eyes dark.

[athoslantean]

She thought about it for a moment, calculating. "A little more than that, actually," was her conclusion.

[colonelinblack]

He frowned, nodding slightly.

"Oh, uh... cool." Cool? That was the best he could come up with, yep.

[athoslantean]

"...How is the bar coming along? Have you employed anyone outside of yourself and Keller to take shifts?"

Subject change. She didn't care if it was obvious or not.

[colonelinblack]

He smiled softly at the subject change, and while he wished it was a more comfortable subject for him... she had to understand why it wasn't. Hell, he doubted it was for her.

"The bar's doing great. We have a few lieutenants, Radek and Lorne helps sometimes... Oh, and even Ronon agreed to work on occasion."

She grinned. "Radek working in a bar. This I will have to see," she said with a chuckle.

[colonelinblack]

"It is quite a sight," he agreed, sitting up silently. "But you know, I should probably get back..."

He sighed, knowing he was going to regret saying this. But.. he'd regret keeping quiet more. Teyla was, without a doubt, his best friend and he didn't want them ever to grow this distant again.

"I want you to know you can talk to me, about this, or.. anything. Anytime," John said evenly, leaning in to kiss her temple before rising, holding out a hand for her.

She reached out to take his hand, allowing him to help her up.

"The same can be said me," she said with a smile. "Know that I am available if you ever wish to talk."

[colonelinblack]

He nodded, a light smile playing on his lips.

"Of course."

[athoslantean]

Still smiling, she stepped close to give him a hug, before moving to lead the way back inside.

I suddenly have visions of Keller, Teyla and John sitting around the infirmary with buckets of ice cream as John gripes about his relationship with Rodney and gets support/advice from the girls a la Chandler-Bonds-With-The-Girls episode of Friends, and 2. I'm suddenly dropping words from my tags, which is not cool because as it's NaNo I should be hoarding words, not losing them. Oh well! ^.^]
