Wasn't it nice to see Carson again?

I'll admit I'm terribly fond of the Rodney and John friendship. But I don't think I'd realized until this week how much I miss the Rodney and Carson friendship. ; )

Oh my word - these two can be so hilarious at times. It's reminiscent of the giddy feeling I'd sometimes get during Daniel and Jack banter, although Rodney and Carson certainly have their own flair and style. But I noticed something that I hadn't before. It strikes me that Rodney is much more... relaxed around Carson. It's as if Carson brings out the best in him. Yes, he can still be his typical obnoxious self, revealing those other quirks he does (which I tend to think are reflections of some low self esteem issues, at least in social settings/relationship), but it's much more toned down. I mean, I see some of the same type thing when he's around John, but it's more obvious around Carson. It's as if Rodney really feels safe to be himself around Carson. Or something. At any rate, it was delightful to watch.

The whole escapade on the hive ship was both impressive and hilarious! How funny to realize that Rodney has been in this situation many times before, and while he's certainly played his part in rescue attempts, it's been others who were the impetus or key player in those events. And then how about Carson? He has come such a long way! Devising his own plans and taking action, shooting bad guys and running about like he was Ronon or something. ; )

As for the stuff going on back on the planet, a most interesting twist with the role of the village leader. I so did not see that coming! And as it turns out, he did have to wrestle with issues of his conscience, just not in the way it was first implied. In hindsight, it makes that scene where he brings the keys to allow the villagers to escape all the more powerful. I love it when the writers can surprise me like that.

Then there was the ending. I know it played into what had actually happened in the episode, what with Carson's comment about not having to solve all the problems in one day, but it also made me think of the episode "Sunday", when no one wanted to take time to spend with Carson. I don't know if that was intentional or not, but it was a nice touch. And then their conversation as it went into the fade... "Rodney McKay you are such a liar--" Hee! Oh, I'd love to read me some good fanfic of the rest of that chat. ; )

I also have to say that next week's episode looks to be mighty interesting indeed! I know it's an idea that's been done before in sci-fi. (Of course, that doesn't bother me. There's only so many ideas in any genre - the important thing is seeing how the characters in a particular show respond to those situations.) But I'm eager to see how our team gets through it.
