Ah, the pleasures of New York! I am inspired by the meal I just enjoyed, one of the most exquisitely prepared and served of my life so far: a salad of wine-poached pear on tender greens with walnuts and a mild blue cheese; pappardelle with pignoli, asiago, and more di gelsi (a kind of berry, I suspect a close relative of the blueberry) in a sauce with raspberry vodka, grappa, and a tiny bit of tomato salsa; earthy, smooth Italian wine; and luxuriously rich but light tiramisu. The wait staff was also energetically knowledgeable and attentive. If anyone ever offers to take you out to Il Punto Ristorante in New York, say yes!
So much other fun on this trip: opera, ballet, theater, museums, seeing many relatives and friends, making and discovering connections, springtime beginning!
