So, popcorn, logarithms, and Facebook.
My microwave, for some reason, like to try to set my popcorn on fire. This one has a rotating plate, which the one at home didn't. The first time I tried popping a bag I let it go the full 2min 30sec and there was a steady stream of smoke coming out, which set off the smoke detector for 3 seconds, until I walked out of the room. What was odd was that the bag itself had a singe mark. The second time I watched and as soon as I saw what I thought was smoke I turned it off. It looked like the bag had gotten so large that it wouldn't rotate anymore, and this time none of the kernels had burned, but the there was still a singe mark on the bag. So this time I folded in the corners and watched intently, and it seems to have been successful, except there are still a ton of unpopped kernels. It's a concern.
There was some point in Algebra II that I really understood logarithms. A lot of times with math I understand how/why stuff works when it's first explained, but then with solving problems I just fall back on the processes and it takes a lot of effort to remember exactly what's going on. There's a visual element to actually getting what's going on which is hard to bring up when you get into the stuff that can't be physically represented, I think. Anyway, there was a point where I could follow the logarithm processes but still know what was going on. It lasted until the unit exam then we moved on to something else. I didn't take a math last year, and now I'm in two, and we're reviewing logarithms now, and I don't really get them. I feel like if were to get it I'd be ecstatic.
Facebook. I've seen at least 4 or 5 new groups created against the feeds. A couple of them had around 1,000 people, one had like 6,000. I was just wondering, if you could have 6,000 people sign on to support some cause in a 24 hour period, what would it be? It's like with the immigration protests in April, though I certainly don't think the 6,000 members of that group would leave their houses to do something, some might, if it was an easy something. That would be an interesting challenge, under what circumstances could you get the largest amount of Facebook users in the shortest amount of time to do something. The most productive thing that comes to mind is a Habitat for Humanity type thing, or just anything that isn't vandalism, I guess.
