monitor update

Because I'm sure you're all biting your nails for the exciting conclusion.... hah!

After retrieving my older monitor (a sturdy NEC LCD that has taken my abuse for nigh on a decade now) from work, I took the cable (VGA? It's a monitor... cable... with the end thingies on it...) and plugged it into the broken monitor. No dice. Still the on-bzzt-off-repeat cycle. I tried a different power cord. Same problem. So I think it has to be the monitor. 'Cause it ain't the cables. Also, I plugged the NEC in (with the broken monitor's VGA cord) and it works just fine.

I'm willing to bet that it isn't worth it to try and get the monitor troubleshooted/fixed. Am I wrong? If not, any recommendations for a new LCD? I'd like 19" or so and am not really too picky about extra features. (Does the picture look ok? Sweet). Fuck Westinghouse and the cheap busted-down-just-past-warranty horse they rode in on. Other than that, I'm clueless. Another NEC? Dell? Acer? HP? Etcetera and so on? Thoughts?
