Saw Ron today. He thinks I have a form of PTSD because of all the abuse from my mother. It doesn't surprise me. When talking about PTSD, most people (including clinicians, it seems) tend automatically think of soldiers, and forget that they are not the only population that can develop PTSD. Soldiers definitely make up the majority of those who have it. But others can develop it as well- PTSD is simply a response to a traumatic event that is perceived as extremely threatening to one's being/safety. Many victims of rape, chronic abuse, natural disasters, and/or social tragedies (e.g., school shootings), even someone who experienced a severe car accident, can develop this disorder. Looking over the criteria, I'd have to agree with him.
My dad took us to see Avatar on Saturday. It was truly epic. I have to say, it is the best sci-fi movie I've ever seen, and is probably even better than the Harry Potter and LoTR movies. Yeah. It's that awesome. We saw the 2D version but when I have money again I'm probably going to see the 3D version, and then probably go see the 2D version again. There's so much in that movie that you can't possibly take in everything the first time. I've seen a lot of good movies, and there are a number of them that are so good that I decide while exiting the theater that I will have to get them on DVD later. However, I rarely see movies multiple times in the theater. The last one I saw multiple times was PoTC 3. I saw it 3 or 4 times and, granted, by the 4th time I was tired of it, but you see where I'm going with this. GO SEE AVATAR. IT IS EPIC.
I'm also beginning to look forward to Christmas. I've been kind of apathetic towards it lately but now that it's really close, my anticipation is growing. I'm going to my dad's tomorrow for Christmas dinner. We're going to open gifts and stuff because my sister has Christmas with my dad this year during the eve- she'll be at my mother's on Christmas Day. I'll be at Chris and Mike's having another Christmas dinner and munching on delicious snickerdoodles. Due to the economy, they are not having gift-y christmas this year, which is fine with me because I can't get people anything this year either (which makes me sad; I like getting people things when I can). I'm off work today. I got everything done on Monday and since my supervisor said I didn't have to come in today if I didn't want to, I told her I'd be home. I have to work through winter break, so I figured I might as well take this one day off while I can.
