If you can believe it I had to pull out Superman to explain my position on why I prefer the Prince over the Beast at the end of Disney's "Beauty and the Beast." I posited/posted the question which vexes so many Superman fans "which is the true self?" As so many of them were posting that it was the Beast I thought it a curious/interesting question to post but found it rather humorous that I had to pull it out for my other absolute favorite fandom.
Now if you've watched this or read my stories about Superman enough you've probably noted that I like the "Whole person" analogy when it comes to Superman. That Clark and Kal-El are only aspects of the whole character manifested. As many people try and separate (i.e. create binary opposition within) him I thought it would be a close enough analogy to post.
Although at the same time I got to thinking about it and realized is was more of a reverse Beauty and the Beast in the literal sense if you think of the Beast as a different species rather than a Prince in Beast's Clothes. That would mean that there's some sort of inter-species intimacy that could take place in that case. I tried to stay away from that comment although I did state something (well strike out something) that pointed out you could very easily go Freudian if you weren't careful. To ease the Superman fans on the f-list, no I'm not one of those that thinks of Clark as a fully different species per se (I'm of the belief that their from the same root species or something like that if I'm going to justify my belief, especially in the case of Superman Returns).
Just the sort of thing I found rather curious.
