March: a summary

DVR report: It's still winning.

A couple days back it decided that I really didn't need to watch that Ducks @ Stars game, I must've just been kidding. Though I guess I should be grateful it didn't give me televangelism instead, like it did for an NHL Overtime earlier in the week. I really don't think my obsession with hockey is going to be the thing that causes me to burn in hell, DVR, and it turns out I don't actually appreciate your concern, either.

Fandom report: Still obsessed with hockey. Cam Ward has taken up residence in my head. Going to a Texas Stars game tonight, should be fun.

Have also been thinking about/reading in: The Eagle, The Social Network, Sherlock, Hawaii Five-0, White Collar, Merlin, Community, Dresden Files (though tricky as I'm not caught up and prefer to avoid spoilers), Justified, and figure skating. Among other things. Oddly, for three of those, I haven't even watched the source material yet.

Life report: South By Southwest kicked ass. Saw 14.5 bands do ~full sets and heard a song or two by an additional nine or ten bands.

Favorite shows: Jeremy Messersmith (so ridiculously adorable and happy-making; I am a little in love with his cellist/keyboardist), The Airborne Toxic Event (kick ass, even more than when I saw them two years ago), Old 97's (SO MUCH ENERGY omg), Okkervil River (transcended the crappy venue and played my five favorite songs by them in their 7-song set -- For Real, John Allyn Smith Sails, Lost Coastlines, Our Life Is Not a Movie or Maybe, and Unless It's Kicks), and The Black Angels (in a bike shop and couldn't actually see the stage, but they sounded awesome and we got to sit down and I shopped for Camelbaks, so I call that a win).

Also enjoyed: Kelly Willis & Bruce Robison (loved their mandolin/violin player), Aphasia (adorable instrumentalists from Taiwan), Fredrik (charming), City and Colour (lead singer looked kinda like Willie Garson; played a gorgeous, gorgeous cover of "Murderer," by Low), Abigail Washburn (I missed her guzheng player, but she had a super cute double bass/pedal steel player so that helped), and a whole slew more.

Least impressed by: The Boxer Rebellion (a bummer because I really love their band name), Weekend (so much meh), Caroline Smith & the Big Sleeps (it's possible we just really needed coffee at that point in the afternoon), and, most sadly, IAMDONALDGLOVER w/ Childish Gambino (though Donald Glover is still an adorable dork, and it's more than it wasn't to my taste than that it was strictly speaking bad).

It was great to have company for the adventure. I am still exhausted, but it was worth it. Before that was moving-house chaos; some unpacking and such still to do. Busy busy. But for now, I nap. :)
