My three wonderful writers (please see my previous post for the long form of these recs, including warnings) turned out to be curiouslyfic (who wrote the kickass, amazing (and amazingly long), brilliantly characterized, prickly and hilarious Kitchen Confidential fic), eudaimon (who wrote really lovely Will/Tunny/Extraordinary Girl), and oxoniensis (who wrote gorgeous, ( Read more... )

Honestly? It was because of the incredible beauty of the prose, and the whole gorgeous feel of the piece seemed very you. And also because of the tiiiiiny Britishisms of "kit bag" and "lodger." *grin* But mostly, because it was so, so exactly the interaction I'd hoped for, and more, and I couldn't imagine anyone buy you writing it. ♥

Aww, thank you, that means a lot to me! I really loved writing it.

The funny thing is that I couldn't imagine the three of them together at all, and it was actually not my first choice of fandom to write you a treat in. But then as soon as I got a first line, it just sort of fell into place, and I could see the three of them, and imagine why you wanted them together. I love it when that happens.

But damn me and my Briticisms. *laughs* Ameripick it for me, please! Rucksack and boarder? I always get mixed up with what's English and what's American with rucksacks and backpacks and kit bags!! *g*

*grin* Well, you did grow up with them and all! I would go with either backpack (smaller usually -- though not always -- and held on the back by two straps over the shoulders) or duffle or duffle bag (larger usually, oblong with the zipper longways along the top, often both two handles as well as a shoulder strap. And probably... renter? It's the only word I can think of in common, informal American usage for that concept.

Well, I knew it was a bit of an idiosyncratic request... but then they all were, rather. I have to admit I was a bit surprised you wrote something triad/threesome-y, as I know they're not your usual thing, but you really managed to find the natural comfortable relationship between them I'd been envisioning as possible -- I'm so (selfishly, gleefully!) glad the three of them fell into place for you. <3

Honestly, I'm getting to the stage now where I'm nervous at offering to Britpick, because I'm losing my sense of what's American and what's British! With grammatical things I'm fine, but with word usage for items it's getting harder - I'm so used to American TV and reading American friends' LJ's, that the languages are blurring!

You're not the only one who's surprised I wrote something threesomey! But that's part of the fun of writing gift fic - writing something you didn't think you could. Kind of a gift that goes two ways!
