Supernatural Batch 5: Happy 24th Birthday, Sam! Have some women.
So, if I had more time I would've gone through and put together a list of fics where Sam is simply happy. But my notes don't make it easy to search for that, and I'm swamped with schoolwork and shouldn't even really be doing anything fic-related. I definitely don't have time to flesh out the half-formed Sam/OFC high-school library porn I have jotted down, which I think is going to become something so long that finding a beta for it would probably be a good idea. Though that probably won't happen until July, anyway.
Instead, a small batch of fics that involve Sam and women. I read a lot more slash than I do het and am a Wincest lover at heart, but there's something about Sam and girls that I really like. Maybe it's that his canon relationship with Jess seemed so good, or that he's so damn adorably awkward with the ones he likes. I don't know. I know there's good Sam het out there that I haven't read yet (femmenerd has a bunch that I've been saving for after I get through this quarter, for example), and but for now:
He Likes It Like This, by iamentheos. Sam/Jess, NC-17. Written from a gorgeous, poetic second-person Jess pov, this fic is like an sweetly intense dream, heady and incredibly hot. If you weren't in love with Sam before reading this, you most certainly will be after.
How to Save a Life by trollprincess. Sam/Jess, R (for violence and bad language, not for sex). "Four times at college that Sam was a Winchester, whether he liked it or not." Half of them feature Jess, though the feel of the whole piece is basically gen. The situations feel very real to me. Oh, Sam. I also really like trollprincess's With a Poodle Under One Arm, and a Two-Foot Salami Under the Other, which is Sam/OFC/Dean cracked-out crazy threesome genderswap bodyswap with a bit of 'cest at the end. NC-17, and totally fabulous.
Give Me a Leonard Cohen Afterworld by musesfool/victoria p. Sam/Jess, PG (also mostly gen). An angsty and brilliant piece of extended speculation, in which Sam wakes up in an alternate version of the world that is almost perfect...
Whole Lotta Love by monster_of_hope. Sam/OFC, Dean/OFC, NC-17. Pre-cest almost-foursome. Insanely hot Sam pov, rhythmic and thoughtful and very well-written. Sam gets a lot of action in this one. And there's a MacGuffin! :)
The boy who didn't by flipmontigirl, a companion piece to The boy who fell (which was so heartbreakingly tender, it made me cry... and when I re-read it, it made me cry again). Sam/Others, Sam/Jess, Sam/Dean. A retrospective on Sam's love life. There are women in it, and the Jess portion is lovely and the reason it seemed all right to include it here, but be warned that the focus is Sam/Dean. Deeply sweet and atmospheric. This pair of fics makes me ache so hard with happiness for them.
Bonus fic:
A Lover in My Bed, and a Gun to My Head by super_kc. Sam/Jo, Dean/Jo, NC-17, three out of four parts up. Everything above is basically Sam-centric and more happy than not. This one is both not Sam-centric and much less happy, particularly for Sam -- the focus is Dean/Jo and all three of them are fucking up left and right in the triangle they're in, and you sympathize with all of them as they hurt and hurt and hurt, themselves and each other. But Sam/Jo does feature heavily, so it seems like it sort of belongs here. This fic is dark and hot and tense, twisted and broken and so, so gorgeous.
