FAIRY TALES OMG!

*ahem* I mean. I really like fairy tales. Really. A lot. Especially meta- and adulterated versions. Sort of like how I like mythology, and by that I mean I've been obsessed with it ever since I discovered it in the third grade, over two decades ago. Only possibly even more so. So um. As you can guess, I am ridiculously, insanely excited about next week's episode. Yes. This is me, flailing wildly inside. Wildly! *flail*

I enjoyed this week's episode a hell of a lot. The conversation between Dean and Casey!Demon kicked ass. I liked that they really clicked -- and that it translated, for both of them, to an impulse toward mercy. I also liked the devoted companionship angle on the 2 demons. I mean, I don't personally ascribe to monogamy for all or anything like that (related, perhaps, to a certain wariness regarding the excessively biblical notions of sin that we've been presented with recently -- maybe a natural problem when faced with the clear existence of hell and demons in the mythology, but still), but I'm just generally a big fan of attachment between characters, even characters that Sam is about to shoot dead. It's interesting about this season so far, between these 2 and Richie from this episode and the 7 Deadly Sins from the first episode, I've really wished for some of the secondary characters to have survived longer, such that we might get to see them again. Maybe this is in part because we've been getting so much Bobby (who continues to be almost impossibly, fabulously awesome) and Ruby (I like her interactions with Sam a lot, and her contact with Bobby this ep made me exceedingly happy), so it almost feels like it could actually be normal to get to know people besides the Winchesters. And of course I am greedy.

Not that I'd want less Sam and Dean, of course. They admittedly spent a fair amount of time apart this ep, which is not usually my ideal in an episode, but between all the fucking awesome mytharc we got and the fact that they both got in some fantastic screentime and activity and development... Well. Let's just say that every week I am amazed all over again at how much I love them both, and this week was definitely no exception.

Unsurprisingly, I'm still not over my enormous crush on Sam. He was an excellent balance of adorable and hot this episode -- lots of action and determination, but also lots of awkwardness and emotion. He is in such deep shit this season. I love it.

And Dean... still so himself, but I think he seemed especially nuanced this week, perhaps because we also got a glimpse into the reality of his deal closing in on his consciousness. And I always like it when Dean proves himself to be competent. Even if he doesn't have that darned exorcism incant memorized yet.

Oh! Incidentally, is it just me, or is it entirely possible that Dean's gotten to kiss more demons than actual normal human females on screen? How much are demons like humans, anyway? Casey!Demon seemed to express a certain aestheticism in her appreciation of Casey's attractiveness. And it's sort of... if I were faced with Dean, even if planned to kill him in the next second, given the opportunity to kiss him, I would certainly take it. It seems like demons are enough like us to also have that instinct. At least some of them.

gush, supernatural
