List 10 songs that you're into at the moment.
Then copy these directions into your journal/blog and tag people to see what they are listening to.
The Church: Maya
The Church: Chromium
(Explanation: Being the obsessive type, I always read the foreword, afterword, introduction & pretty much everything in a book. And the "thanks to" section in Shriek ends with "special thanks to the Church. I listened to selections from all their CDs while writing Shriek".
So of course I got curious and borrowed a couple of their albums from the library. It's pretty basic rock, but there are some interesting melodies and brilliant lyrics. Plus I really like the singer's voice.)
Tori Amos: Concertina
Tori Amos: Cruel
(Concertina is at the moment my favourite Tori song. For various reasons.
And Cruel? I find it relaxing (samalla tavalla kuin kuplamuovin poksauttaminen).
10,000 Maniacs: Stockton Gala Days
(Someone whose music taste is very similar to mine loaned me the album. The songs are, well, pretty. Works well as background music.)
Stina Nordenstam: Circus
Stina Nordenstam: Everyone Else in the World
(I finally got my hands on the album This Is Stina Nordenstam. These two were my instant favourites.)
Vienna Teng: Gravity
(I wasn't exactly blown away by by the other songs available for download
at her website, but Gravity is love.)
Poe: Amazed
(Because it refers directly to House of Leaves. Because Only Revolutions comes out in September.)
Rufus Wainwright: Harvester of Hearts
(You know how it goes. One morning you just wake up humming not that I have that much to offer...)
And I'm tagging...Everyone! Or no-one.
Extra-short review of Sputnik Sweetheart
Not as good as South of the Border, West of the Sun or Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, but still highly recommendable. It has many elements, themes & such in common with Murakami's other novels that one learns to recognize, but Sputnik also struck me as the saddest Murakami novel I've read so far.
After the first 100 pages the story changes it course, reaches the climax, and then continues with a sort of aftermath -ie, if you read the first 50 pages and think that you know what's going to happen -trust me, you don't. It's Murakami.
Nothing to complain about the translation. And yens weren't changed to dollars.
