I hadn't been to bed this morning at 5:40am. I've been on vacation all week, and have gotten into a habit of going to bed extremely late. While sitting in bed on the computer, I felt the whole house shake. It continued on for something like a minute. It was the scariest thing. I later found out it had been an earthquake. We just dont *have* earthquakes around here. It started from just outside of west salem Illinois, and was a 5.2 magnitued earthquake. I'm about 150 miles from where it originated. It's said it could be felt all the way down into Atlanta Georgia. It turns out there have been other quakes in this area in the past, the last one occuring in 1968 (5.3), and then a couple really big ones in the early 1800s. What a creepy experience... I hope this doesn't turn into something more frequent. Of course, there are the fanatics posting comments to the comment sections on news articles predicting this is part of the end of the world, complete with more frequent, larger earthquakes, as well as volcanic erruptions, and gama rays from the sun. Crazies... the world is not ending in 2012.
