Since my new job is turning out to be about 50% tech support in some form or another, I'm getting my share of head slappers. I nearly did a facepalm this morning when I asked someone who was otherwise very nice what browser she was using and she answered “Comcast.” Later that day someone else answered "AOL" to the same question. I decided to hold my tongue both times and not point out that those are ISPs, not browsers, and just marked down “IE” on the form, since it's a pretty good guess that's what they're using if they don't know.
Speaking of browsers, I imported everything from Opera into Chrome since Opera has been having a lot of issues lately, and I use Chrome at work anyway so I'm pretty used to it now. It took me a bit to figure out how to export the bookmarks, but eventually I figured out how to get them out in HTML and just import them.
Do I officially count as a techie now?
Oh, and I officially feel like a corporate overlord (and not in a good way) since late in the day they casually mentioned that there was going to be a protest outside our building and to just ignore the protesters, as well as mentioning that the police would be out there to make sure everything went smoothly. They hadn't quite arrived by the time I left, but I think I spotted them getting ready to walk down a few blocks away. I'm not sure I want to know what they were protesting.
