September beckons

As much as I love the four seasons, I am particularly fond of September and October. Late summer and early autumn are so energizing, I am driven by a sense that time is running out and winter is bearing down on me.

There's so much to savor and enjoy.  Sunny afternoons are made for kayaking, and mornings are made for drinking tea and capturing thought pictures in my journal. Mornings should be for hiking, but an injured Achiles tendon has me limping slowly along. What I am doing best is sitting on a rock and appreciating the shore birds. I could watch egrets and herons every day and never tire of them. Sunday afternoon was spent in the company of a great blue heron, and I just couldn't get enough of that angular beauty.

That doesn't sound very driven or energized, does it? The energy I am feeling isn't sending me rushing around madly, but it is sending me out to do things.

I am also being driven to spin wool and think about the next weaving project.  I am gathering colors and making rough sketches.

September 17th is approaching.  This is the first anniversary of Occupy Wall Street. Another world IS still possible. I don't know where I stand with the movement. I burned out hard last year, Protest takes a lot out of my spirit. I am not confrontational by nature. When we had the huge encampment in Liberty Park, it was possible to protest by nurturing and educating people, by living the world we wanted to create. I never went on many marches, but I did teach people about alternatives to big banking...and showed everyone how to fold origami peace cranes.

Striving...moving...changing...but always from a place of peace. This, too is possible.
