Have you ever had a shitty day that was turned entirely around by someone's unexpected kind words?
Now, have you ever been the one to give out those kind words?
I have a challenge for my friends, and the friends of my friends. Say something kind to someone and blog about the result under the subject "One Small Act." Write how it made you feel, how you think it made them feel, etc. You don't have to know them, or know the result of your act.
The only rule: It must be genuine. None of those little white lies we tell each other. Real kindness please.
I don't know if anyone is going to take me up on this challenge, but I'll explain why I've come up with it:
I work with some tremendous people. People that are good at their jobs, and who are really genuinely nice people. We all work hard, and sometimes it feels like no one notices. So today I told one of the executives my honest opinion of the employee evaluation process he came up with. It was the most productive, nice, and fulfilling evaluation I've ever been a part of, and I've seen a lot of these things. He told me it was the nicest thing anyone had said to him all day.
This guy is one of the best bosses I've ever had. He's respectful, kind, attentive, imaginative, and incredibly good at what he does. And it dawned on me that I've never told him that.
My goal is to do one of these a week and blog about it. (I was going to say day, but considering I work in a small office and nearly never leave it,that much complimenting might seem a bit odd/insincere)If nothing else, it will get me blogging more.
Let me know what you think, or if you have any ideas.
