I realize that this post was just disturbing.  Sorry about that.  I lost my job 5 weeks ago.  My unemployment benefits were denied and I am in the appeals process.

I did receive food stamps and public medical insurance that will be activated on April 1.  I was denied cash assistance and housing expenses based on the my ASRS pension account.  I have applied for full withdrawal of my pension which will take some pretty heavy penalites before it hits my bank account in 8 - 10 weeks.

In the meantime, I am penniless with no way to pay my rent or utilities, put gas in my car or buy a bus pass even.  I learned on my birthday that I might very well lose my apartment and my cats will have to be fostered out or surrendered to the pound.

Friends have offered me very temporary places to stay (for a night or two) or there are women's shelters all around the city.  I will be homeless.  With my health issues grown so much worse over the past two years, I am not confident that I will survive homelessness.  The disruption in medication routines, perhaps the need to sleep in my car...I am a strong person, but this, I think is beyond my abilities.  If I were young and healthy, I would do whatever it took to survive.  Now...I am tired in every conceivable sense.  Just exhausted.

This is what the weird post was about.  UPDATE:  Friends-as-Family, friends, acquaintances, former colleagues and you gals here are mobilizing.  I may be spared the fate of homelessness and even buy time until my pension comes in and/or Unemployment is settled.  I am ashamed to have had so little faith.

Thank you so much for your notes and little gifts and for staying in touch with me.   I am deeply grateful.  More than these black and white letters can express.

Con amor,

Athena

And now I am tired.
