Buenos tardes mis amigas!
My neighbor downstairs, Margie, is moving out. She is working hard and I know she is an older lady.
Well, I hear this mournful wailing. And it goes on...and then on some more, getting softer and it stops.
Right. Now I am worried. So down I go in my crocs, no bra and my sweats. The sliding glass door is open wide and I can hear the radio softly, but no other noise. Shit!
I go over the railing (which is like watching an Olympic athlete in action, all grace and no wasted motion) and I start yelling through the screen. "Margie, Margie? Are you okay?" Then the same in Spanish!
Here she comes at a quick trot, perfectly fine.
"Are you okay, Senora?" I cry. "I heard a terrible crying sound and I was so worried. I wanted to see if you had fallen or..."
"Mijita, no. I am fine. I was singing! I love to sing while I work. Your, face is all pale, are *you* okay?"
"Yep, yep. Just fine. Sure glad you're okay" Then I die 1,000 deaths from embarrassment. We have a friendly conversation and I slink off...
Singing? It sounded like a moose with a broken heart and its ass caught in a meat grinder. I'm sure Death came down to see if she was ready to be harvested.
Mahhhnnn...
