I keep them in Minnesota, and today like three of them talked to me.
Things I am thinking about today:
- Boys
- Zombies
- Horror movies
- Cultural criticism, my love of
- Masochism
Things I was thinking about earlier than today:
- needle exchanges
- alternative epistemologies
If weren't too lazy, I'd write the obvious colonial criticism of 28 Days Later, including not only the chained up black guy and the "colonizing" of the female form and the definitions of civilization, but also the fact the main military dude's name was WEST. Given that last fact, the thing practically writes itself. Actually, I kinda just read this article. I am glad the academics and I can agree that Jim saying Selena looked good in that dress was creepy.
And furthermore, I didn't bring the feminist critique are far as I could, and completely missed the menstrual implications of 28 days, which connects also to Selena's name (i.e. Selene) or the Eve/Pandora element of the female animal rights activist opening the cage door.
And apparently, just about every female horror character has some relation to menstruation. Variously.
I also found a couple neat sounding journals, like Psychoanalysis, Culture & Society and Golem: Journal of Religion and Monsters
the more interesting bits of this blog brought to you by this article:
