Well, today I went to a luncheon for the local democrats (the money was staying in Saratoga) and Hilary Clinton was the keynote speaker. Bruce kindly watched Aidan while I went.
I stitched a large rhinestone peace sign onto my black turtleneck, because you know how I like to be subtle. I got a seat *really* close to the podium. At then end, A few people I knew (from working on the Kerry campaign) were standing with her and I went right up to them. I got my pic taken, and then I got to shake Hilary's hand and say "I beg you to reconsider your stance on Iraq. We need to get out of there." She looked me in the eye and solemnly said "I know we do. We have elections coming up on December 15, so we'll see what happens with that, but I know we do".
I'm so glad I didn't just join my friends in the peace movement outside. For once, I know she heard me. I was really heard by someone in power. Sooooo much better than an email!!!
Man, that feels freakin awesome!
(okay, I look awful, sigh. I should never bend my head like that and let that horrible double chin show)
