Mizuki is love

Mizuki is one of my favorite characters from PoT. And I have to tell you, reading about him in fanbook 20.5 made me love him even more. I promised to show a particular person on my flist the vastness of my Mizuki love by providing some translations from the fanbook on his behalf.

Mizuki Hajime: "You found out about this too late."

The intellect of St. Rudolph, Mizuki's skills in gathering and analyzing data rival those of Seigaku's Inui. He also possesses great talent as a player, and with his unique athleticism, he is able to construct the perfect scenario for his tennis.

His cool conduct stands out, but in the midst of a match, he will exhibit passionate emotion he normally does not show.

A perfectionist who meticulously calculates a scenario-based tennis!!

The scenario that Mizuki constructs is as beautiful as a stage drama, and perfect. However, this is the result of his hard work in compiling and analyzing internal and external data. Like a swan that exerts effort to keep afloat by kicking underwater, Mizuki puts in all his effort while keeping his team's victory in his sights.

He inputs all data on both team's strategy and strives for perfect victory.

He has the confidence of one who knows his opponent inside and out. This is the key to his strength.

Absolutely seals off his opponent's finishing moves by constructing the perfect counter.

[* I should note here that the fanbook rates St. Rudolph's benchwork at the maximum 5 stars. This is props to Mizuki's data gathering skills. In comparison, Hyoutei has 4 stars, Rikkai 4.5 stars for benchwork. (Rokkaku is the only other school with 5)]

Well aware of how to bring out the essence!!

Capellini is a very thin pasta also know as "angel hair." It's only pasta by itself, but by adding caviar, it brings out its delicate nature and allows for a unique and unrivaled culinary experience. Extracting the maximum effect from the most minimal materials - that is the essence of Mizuki's favorite food.

Based on his meticulous calculation, he brings out the most amount of points. All according to his scenario...!

He has a strong sense of responsibility and lots of pride, but he truly values relationships with people, and dislikes being alone. In truth he gets lonesome easily and is the type of person who always likes to be with his friends. Therefore, living in a dorm suits his personality quite well.

He is good at reading people's emotions. Being a counselor suits him well.

Akazawa Yoshirou: "He's an essential part of our team. If he did something about his sarcasm, he'd be easier to get along with..."

Fuji Yuuta: Mizuki-san is my savior! I couldn't have come this far if it weren't for Mizuki-san...I'm really grateful to him!!"




1. Books on economics and science: The science book is on genetics, something he recently found an interest in. He reads the economics book to kill time.


2. Lip cream: Uses the kind that comes in a tube. Apparently dislikes the pressure the stick type exerts when putting it on.


3. Memo pad with lock: All contents are inputted in his head. Puts a lock on it to emphasize its authoritative nature.


4. Handkerchief: Handkerchief is indispensable to keep self presentable. He chooses a pattern everyday and irons them with care.


5. Hair wax: Special hair wax for permed hair. Made from natural ingredients that won't give his skin a rash.


6. Sunblock: For sensitive skin. Uses it in winter as well, for his skin can burn from ultraviolet rays.


7. Cherry candy: Specialty from Mizuki's hometown Yamagata. He tastes this and thinks of his family..?


8. Notebook computer: Can process his data at high speeds. Always has the latest model.


9. Hand mirror (big and small): Has two so he can check the back as well. The smaller mirror is an antique.

(This isn't a direct translation, but just a summary of the contents...) The chair with rose patterned cushion is something that Mizuki brought in for his own use. It's comfortable, even after sitting for long time. Mizuki's locker has a curtain (made from cloth that has one of his favorite designs on it) because he doesn't like having his things exposed. It's the first years' job to clean the laundry piled up in the corner - however, Mizuki does not put his clothes here, as he washes them himself. The computer in the corner is where Mizuki enters his data. White board is used when Mizuki explains strategy.



Q2: Mizuki-san, are your personal clothes your own taste, or do you have your family send them to you?

A2: Nfu. Listen carefully, ok? Clothing is the ultimate manner in which one's uniqueness is most readily expressed. Do you truly think that I would be so careless as to entrust another person - even my own family - to such a task?

Unlike the other athletes, Mizuki wears long sleeves and pants. This is because he sunburns easily.
