Basis of qualia in complex neuronal patterns

“Human thoughts and emotions emerge from exceedingly complex interconnections of physical entities within the brain.”

"The God Delusion" by Prof. Richard Dawkins, p14

I've taken it as an assumption all my life that consciousness, and particular qualia, are a result of the complex interactions of the neurones in our brains. I haven't found anything in neurology or philosophy that makes me doubt it... but, you lot can help me with my second assumption!

I've also always assumed that us atheists take a naturalist view on the universe, but does anyone hold any objections to the premise that consciousness is bourne of complex neural nets?
