I love Debian, I really do, but...

... at times like this it can frustrate me.

Basically, given the projected release date is as soon as this coming Tuesday, I'd like to try out the latest Firefox 3 Release Candidate (number 3). So I downloaded it, installed it, and ran it, only to be told "sod off, your GTK library is only 2.8 and you need at least 2.10".

Indeed 2.8 is the only version available in current Debian Stable (Etch). There's no libgtk2 in backports.org (they tend to avoid the bigger libraries like that), and I'm not really sure I want to jump my desktop to Debian Testing (Lenny) yet. I keep on hearing that they want Lenny to be the new stable before year end, maybe even as soon as Autumn, but it could still be painful to run it between now and then.

Ah well, maybe I'll try FF3 on windows, but I think after the reinstall earlier this week I'd prefer to avoid that. So screw FF3 for now.

linux, debian, firefox
