Lycidas

I have been amusing myself by following up on the many references in Coronets and Steel.  It has been wonderful fun acquainting and re-acquainting myself with Wodehouse, Hope and Austen (I am depending on Kim achieving Fanny’s resolution rather than Rudolph’s!).  But Alec’s particular interest in Lycidas has me stumped.  Does it serve as a warning to him that earthly fame is fleeting and that he has a responsibility to care for his “sheep” without corruption?  If so, why would Nat think that is potentially TMI or pertinent to Kim?

Anyone interested in some discussion?
