I just have to write this immediately or else I'll explode.
WARNING: Spoilers on the episode "Images". Profanities.
So after scouring the internet to find a good video stream of YJ episode "Images", I finally found one and after watching it I was left amazed, horrified, and darn it I think I'm going to cry myself to sleep tonight.
First off, whoever the writer of this episode is god! Damn! How did Young Justice got this good?! "Misplaced" left me amazed with the script and the music and the Zatanna and Zatara interactions. "Coldhearted" was the only cartoon I've ever watched that really put me in the edge with its suspense and awesome twists and turns. Now "Images"? Damn... just hot damn... Young Justice is getting better and better and damn it if this episode didn't make the show garner more audience then I don't know what will!!!
"Images" was the most disturbing and horrifying episode to date. Just from the opening with M'gann roleplaying Black Canary in every way (I totally understand BC's reaction to that because game or not, it was just plain wrong.) Then into the part where M'gann's true form was revealed (Damn, that was pure High Octane Nightmare fuel for me). Then into all of M'gann's fears (God... no matter how she looks I just want to hug her after seeing that.) Then when M'gann broke Psimon mentally? S***!!! It just reminded me of Justice Lord Superman killing Luthor in the cartoon Justice League and their whole lobotomizing criminals protocols. Not to mention that that was a true testament of M'gann's power and motivations... And the ending? FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!!!! Please no... just no... M'gann!!!!
Personally, I'm not a big M'gann fan. I just see her as a very plain character. But then this episode change everything. In just less than 25 minutes, I really got to see her character in all her glory and I fell in love with it.
She's a badass. That's already established in a lot of episodes. Most notable are in "Bereft" and "Failsafe". She really is powerful and dangerous once she become s highly motivated. Whoever still thinks that she's a lame non-badass character are idiots.
Then we go to her fears and her motivations to adopting the identity of "Megan". It was heart wrenching to hear her say "This is me." It was as if it was her mantra. It is really sad because what if that was who she really is. She's really "Megan" inside - sweet and loving. Her true form might just have crippled her from truly embracing it. And then, she saw the "Hello Megan" show and she finally found a way to "externalize" who she really was. I guess I mean, internally she's already "Megan" and she just needed the appropriate image/form to show it. All throughout the series, she's just not roleplaying. It's really her being her.
And her most horrifying fears... God I wanted to cry there because all of them could really happen. Let's not sugarcoat here. M'gann's true form is horrifying and nightmarish. Kid Flash's reaction in her mind is highly plausible because remember in the Teen Titan comics? Even though Kid Flash loved and cared for Raven, he became absolutely disgusted, horrified, and scared at her when he was exposed to her evil (true?) side. I could really see that being applied with M'gann in Young Justice. And the rest of the team? I... I don't know but really if you saw that... how would you react? Truthfully?
The one with Conner not loving her back if he ever found out what she really is... I don't think she will receive that kind of reaction from him at all. Superboy really likes/loves her and I don't think he'll care for appearances. She accepted him even if he was a clone. I truly believe Conner will return her that favor too. Besides we have seen in the episode's opening that he is willing to do anything with and for M'gann (the roleplay?). So yeah, him leaving her because of her looking like a monster? Not happening.
Then the issue of the JL members not trusting her. Sure it will happen at first but I think eventually they'll trust her again because her true character and genuine goodness will come through. Everyone will become ok with her sooner or later... except Batman. But he's Batman so he doesn't count.
So, M'gann desperately trying to hide her true form is understandable. It's wrong but understandable because no matter what happens, someone will surely react badly about it (Come on let's be honest here, that form is something you don't want to be with most of the time. It's the NORMAL and most HUMAN reaction people!) and she doesn't like that. Her fears are truly profound and heartbreaking and damn it... she's now an instant woobie in my eyes.
Then we go to M'gann's fight with Psimon and eventually "breaking" him to protect her identity? HIGH OCTANE NIGHTMARE FUEL! Enough said. (Damn... is this still a show for kids?!!! This episode doesn't seem ok for kids to watch!)
Now the ending...FFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please don't tell me that's a set-up on her pulling a "Face Heel Turn" later in the series! Then there was the little tidbit of information from Batman earlier in the episode "She could control some females too.) NOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!! Please M'gann be strong! Don't listen to her! Damn it! Just tell the truth to Conner or J'onn, they will understand and accept you! I'm sure of it! Just don't listen to her!!!!!
So all in all, another amazing episode of Young Justice. ^-^ I couldn't wait for next. Hopefully the rest of the episodes is as great as these last three (Misplaced, Coldhearted, and Images) And O.o only 5 episodes left and it's finished? NOOOOO!!!!
*On a sidenote: I think Garfield will later appear as Beast Boy in the series (eventually provided that it pushes through Season 2 or more). M'gann's giving her blood to him might be a good basis for his shapshifting abilities as Beastboy. It might've just become limited to animals because 1) He's human so his body mechanism are entirely different from Martians hence some changes may not be possible and 2) An animal bit him thus influencing his blood/DNA and shapeshifting abilities (The monkey kinda bit him in the end, right?)
*Another sidenote: M'gann is now my fave female character in show. (Wally is my fave among the guys)
