Postcards

So in the past couple of years, I have sort of discovered a new hobby - postcard collecting. I've always kind of liked postcards, but it took the discovery of Postcrossing.com via Facebook on a gloomy February day in 2010 to make things take off.
To date (it will be exactly 2 years on February 12th), I have sent out 355 cards via the site and have gotten 348 cards in return (not bad). I've also begun sending and receiving more cards from in real life friends as opposed to people met online via Postcrossing. Postcards provide a lovely little window onto the world and are a cheap way to feel like I am seeing some of the world. (World traveler is a LOT out of my budget right now. *sigh*)

I've decided to start sharing a few postcards here on the LJ as a way of giving myself something else to write about - herewith a couple of recent spiffy acquisitions:

A marvelous BADGER postcard from Belarus. Received yesterday - February 7th.

And here is a fun one from the Ukraine - I like how the seeds look like music notes on a staff. Received January 18th.

Striking photo of a grotto dedicated to the Virgin Mary in Germany. Not religious, but I do like the photo (probably coz I am fond of candles). Received January 13th.

I'll try to share and write a little about other postcards as and when the mood strikes. Hope this amuses others (but at the very least, it will amuse ME and that's ok too!)

Doing my bit to help keep the US Postal service going! (Even though I am sad about the recent increase in the cost of stamps - it went from costing 98 cents to mail a postcard overseas to $1.05 - a 7 cent price increase is substantial! This may slow down the rate I send the cards at, but it's not going to stop me sending them!!)
