(Lame tittle is lame. Also, blame the format on OpenOffice. And... blame the bad writing on me xD)

Part 1.

A cell phone was ringing in the corner of a night table, in a dark room. It fell off and ringed two more times before stopping. Then another phone started ringing, its light toned down by the fabric of the pocket of a black jacket.

  • Jack, I think we better answer that - Said Ianto, trying to push Jack back, but the man hugged his partner's waist and kissed his stomach.

  • Jack, really, I think it's Gwen, it can't be a coincidence, both of us getting phone calls, one after the other. - The phone in the floor started ringing again.

  • OK, Alright, I'll get the call - Jack laid on his stomach in bed and reached the floor, searching the phone with one of his hands.

  • Sorry, I couldn't resist - Said Ianto as he slapped Jack's ass.

  • Gwen, what happens? - said Jack laughing.

  • Jack, thank God! I'm sorry if I'm interrupting something but you really need to see this.

  • What is it? - asked the man, serious now, making sings to Ianto telling him to get dressed.

  • Well, it seems it's a werewolf - said Gwen - I'm at the police station with Andy.

  • OK, we are on our way - Said Jack and ended the call. Ianto was ready and had collected Jack's clothes, that were spread on the floor, so Jack dressed quickly and they went to the station.

Gwen was waiting for them outside.

  • Andy told me the thing attacked a girl. She was carried to the hospital and is being attended, but she kept murmuring the word werewolf. Of course, she is in shock, but we should make sure there is nothing weird behind the attack.

  • Of course, we better check this. - replied Jack. - Werewolves are supposed to feed of human flesh, and I doubt this creature is a werewolf, in fact, I doubt it's human, but maybe is the reason the legend originated in the first place, so it means whatever it is, has something contagious, we need to be careful. - Said Jack.

  • Here it is, it's sedated now, so we should be fine. Do you want me to ask Andy to open the door?

  • Yes, please.

  • I'll be right back.

  • Have you seen anything like this before? - Ianto asked Jack.

  • No, I don't think so. But I think it could be an infectious disease transmitted by a bite.

  • Do you think it' s treatable?

  • I hope so, because I saw it biting a young girl - said Andy, that arrived with the keys. - OK, I'll open the door now, step back please. - They did as Andy said and as soon as the policeman unlocked the door the creature inside the cell ran to scape from it's prison.

  • You said it was sedated! - shouted Gwen.

  • It was! It wasn't moving when we locked the cell.

  • OK, Gwen, stop it, we need to catch it. You and Andy can go after the creature in a police car and Ianto will go with me to fetch some equipment from the hub, OK? Now, hurry! - Ordered Jack and they run to do as they were told.

Andy had driven two blocks from the police station when Gwen asked him to stop the car. They abandoned the car and Gwen run to where the creature was, attacking a young man. It looked like a wolf, the nose, the ears, the paws, but it had no hair, looking somehow human.

  • Hey you... thing, whatever you are!

The creature looked at her and started running in her direction, they were separated by one step when they heard the sound of a gun.

  • Oh my God! - Gwen exclaimed, relieved. - Ianto approached her and hugged her while Jack checked the pulse of the creature.

  • Are you OK? - Jack asked.

  • Unharmed, yeah, thank you.

  • No need to thank me, you know it.

  • We better take the creature to the hub - Said Ianto.

  • It was attacking a man, he needs attention - Said Gwen.

  • I'm sure Andy will take good care of him - Said Jack.

  • Right, of course - Said Andy annoyed and called an ambulance.

Gwen, Ianto and Jack put the creature in the car and went to the hub. Once there they started the investigation.

  • Blood test results say the creature is not human - said Jack.

  • There was rift activity at 8 pm yesterday - said Gwen after checking the computer - It must have come trough at that time. And there is the girl Andy mentioned, she was injured 20 minutes past midnight, she is at the hospital, her name is Alexandra Bown, and the boy's name, according to Andy, is James Harries.

  • CCTV footage shows a human, or something that looks like one, falling from the sky near the bay. - Said Ianto.

  • So the creature is human after all? - asked Gwen.

  • Maybe it can change it's form - replied Ianto.

  • “Werewolf”, remember? Gwen, you said Andy told you the girl that had been attacked was repeating that word when he found her. - said Jack.

  • Yes, that's what he said. He also said the girl looked like she was attacked by a wild animal.

  • Ianto, please research werewolves sightings over history.

  • Yes, sir.

  • Gwen, come with me, we are visiting the victims. - Jack kissed Ianto, whose face turned slightly red, and stepped into the elevator with Gwen.

  • What was that? - asked Gwen, smiling, when they were on the car.

  • What was what?

  • That kiss.

  • A kiss.

  • Yes but... you are not the type for that kind of thing.

  • Maybe now I am. Do you have a problem with that?

  • No, of course not, it's just... both of you are so reserved about everything.

  • You know a lot about myself. More than anyone except Ianto, I guess. And there is nothing to hide, right?

  • Thank you Jack. For trusting me. - Gwen put his hand in Jack's arm.

  • You are really special, Gwen - said Jack and hold the handle of the car with one hand to put the other over Gwen's. - You all are... were... Suzie, Owen, Tosh...

  • I know... - Gwen put his hand away and Jack focused his attention on driving. They made the rest of the journey in silence.

  • We are looking for James Harries and Alexandra Bown - Said Jack to the receptionist of the hospital.

  • Are you family?

  • No, we are investigating the attacks. - Replied Gwen.

  • Alexandra is still unconscious, you can visit James, and we will let you know if the girl wakes up. He is in the room 306, third floor, end of the corridor.

  • Thank you - said Gwen, and Jack and her went to James' room. - Hi, James - said Gwen entering the room after knocking the door.

  • You... you were the ones that saved me from that beast - said the boy, with weak voice.

  • You remember us? I thought you were unconscious when we arrived - said Jack.

  • No, I wasn't. I saw you. Thank you.

  • James, we need to make you some questions about the attack. We are trying to clarify what happened.

  • I know nothing, really. I was returning home from a mate's house, and that thing run to me. It sniffed the air, searching something, and then it jumped to me. It hurt me with its claws, but you arrived soon enough, so I wasn't injured too badly.

  • Do you feel different? - asked Gwen.

  • Different? How? I don't think so... I'm sore, but I guess it's normal.

  • Yeah, it's normal. - Gwen gave him a sad smile.

  • Do you mind if we take some of your blood and saliva? - asked Jack

  • No, go ahead. - Gwen took the saliva sample while Jack obtained the blood.

  • Thank you James, you have been really helpful - Said Gwen, smiling, and Jack and her went to the first floor. On their way to the elevator a nurse told them Alexandra had woke up.

  • She is on the room 304 - said the girl.

  • Thank you - said Jack and gave the nurse a flirty smile. He and Gwen redirected themselves to the girl's room and found her trying to drink water.

  • Let me help you - said Gwen and held the glass, put a straw inside and held them close to the girl.

  • Thank you - she said, with a weak voice.

  • Can you tell us what happened to you? - asked Jack.

  • I was going back home from shopping, I was really near my home, and a men approached me, he seemed in pain, and was asking for help, so I asked him what was wrong - The girl stopped and Gwen gave her more water. - Then he... he transformed... he didn't look human anymore... he looked like a wolf... but still human... and he jumped on me, and started attacking me - The girl coughed and Gwen gave her more water.

  • Thank you Alexandra - Said Jack. - You don't need to talk anymore, just move your head affirmatively if you agree, we need to ask you something else. Can we take a sample of your blood and saliva? - The girl assented with her head and they proceeded to take the samples.

  • Thank you - said Gwen and they left.

  • I've found some interesting things - Ianto said when he heard Jack and Gwen arriving. - Werewolves have been reported since Ancient Greece, from 8th to 6th Century B.C. There is a myth about Zeus going to earth and punishing the Arcadian King Lycaon for trying to trick the god into eating human flesh. Zeus turned the King into a wolf for the rest of his life. Then it jumps to the 15th Century. The first sighting then is reported in 1591, in Germany, a man called Peter Stubbe, he was a murderer and was killed once they discovered his crimes, his head was exposed in front of all citizens. He was also accused of practicing witchcraft since he was 12 years old. The most common believe is that one becomes a werewolf by a bite, but there are other common alternatives, such as practicing sorcery or worshiping the Devil. In fact, these last two would be how werewolves appeared according to 15th Century belief. Then it was transmitted by a bite. Scientific believe is it is rabies or porphyry, which is a genetic disease also associated with vampires.

A/N: The creature looks like Remus during his transformation in the third Harry Potter movie. At least that is what I use as reference in my head.

  • Wow, you gathered a lot of information while we were gone - exclaimed Gwen.

  • In fact, I found something else. Here, in Cardiff, there were early reports of werewolves in the 19th Century. There is said that 2 girls and 3 men were living in the forest, in a house hidden away from the rest of civilization. The house belongs to a school now, it's said it is haunted, so the owners of the land hadn't touched it.

  • These people must be dead now, though. - Said Gwen.

  • Yes, but this information was posted in a blog and among the comments claiming it's fake I found one from someone saying one of those werewolves was his grandmother's brother.

  • So this person must be really old now - Jack pointed out.

  • That, if we are lucky enough and is still alive. That comment was posted 5 years ago. I'm starting to track the source of the comment.

  • I'll go check the creature - Said Jack and left Gwen and Ianto alone.

  • Everything fine with Jack? - Asked Gwen.

  • Yes, everything's fine - Said Ianto, smiling awkwardly.

  • Are you alright?

  • Non of us is, I guess. I've noticed how you avoid Owen's space, or Tosh's computer.

  • Yeah, it's just I'm not used to those spaces being available.

  • I know.

  • Gwen, Ianto! - Jack shouted from the cells.

  • On our way! - answered Ianto.

  • Oh my God - Screamed Gwen.

  • He is... it looks human now. - said Ianto.

  • A werewolf - murmured Jack, and then said - Ianto, buy him some clothes. Gwen, go home, get some sleep, we'll be having night shifts.

Gwen and Ianto left the hub to do as Jack had ordered them. At home, Gwen found Rhys, still asleep. Looked at the hour on her cell phone, 8 am, and settled the alarm at 7 pm, took off her clothes and laid in bed hugging her husband. He woke up and kissed her, then she fell asleep as he told her something she couldn't hear.

Ianto returned to the hub with a bag of clothes for the werewolf and another with coffee and donuts for all of them.

  • Our guest is still sleeping - Said Jack getting near Ianto, who dropped the bags carefully on the ground as Jack hugged him.

  • Do you ever get tired?

  • I don't need much sleep. You can lay down on the sofa if you want.

  • I want you to be near me - Ianto murmured on Jack's neck and then kissed it.

  • I can sit there and you can rest your head on my lap.

  • That sounds nice. - Ianto fetched the bag with the clothes to leave it on Jack's desk. Jack ate a doughnut while they walked to the sofa, once there he sat down and Ianto sat on Jack's lap, kissed him while ruffling his hair and then hugged him.

  • Can I sleep like this?

  • I doubt it. Now lay down. Oh, before you fall asleep! - said Jack while Ianto changed his position - I finished tracking the location from which the comment on that website was made while you were shopping.

  • Thank you - said Ianto with sleepy voice.

  • I got an address.

  • We should go.

  • You must get some sleep first - said Jack and kissed Ianto's forehead, to then play with the other man's hair until he fell asleep. He tried to get some sleep too, without success. He really enjoyed looking that man sleep. He looked so peaceful. - You are beautiful, Ianto Jones - Whispered Jack, and touched the other man's lips. - You look so fragile like this. But I know you are strong. You've been trough so much. Sometimes I feel the need to Retcon you, even if you wouldn't remember me, just to protect your precious existence. Death follows me, but never takes me. It can't, so it pays revenge by taking the ones that approach me. I can't afford loosing you, or Gwen. I want you to be safe, and I know you'll never be safe by my side, but at the same time I need you here. - Ianto moved to lay on his left side, facing Jack, and the man stopped talking.

Jack kissed Ianto's head and closed his eyes. He woke up later and found himself alone, laying on the sofa. He stood up and went searching the other man. - Ianto?

  • I'm with our guest. Said the man, and Jack went to meet with them. - He woke up and started to scream and hit the walls, he was feeling lost, of course. I handed him the clothes and food. I didn't want to wake you up, I had no idea how long you had been sleeping. - Jack smiled and leaned to kiss him, but then regretted it and faced the cell t speak to the man there. - His name is Edward Lingley.

  • Hello, Edward, could you tell me where are you from? City and year, please. - Said Jack.

  • Cardiff, 1879 - Said the man.

  • We are in the year 2009.

  • But... How did I get here? - asked the man, horrified.

  • It's hard to explain. Could you tell me about last night? What happened?

  • I was fishing on the bay, suddenly I fell to the water and then... I was here. Everything so crowded, so bright. Did I hurt someone?

  • A young woman and a man - Said Ianto - But they are being attended and will recover, don't worry.

  • I'm really sorry - said Edward, clearly worried.

  • Do you know what's wrong with you? - Asked Jack.

  • Werewolves, they call us. There is 5 of us. We are living on our own, in the forest. - Ianto gave a surprised look to Jack, who assented silently.

  • And how did you become one? - asked Ianto.

  • I was bit by another one.

  • One of the 4 that lives with you?

  • No. The one that bit me was killed. Burned. He was a sorcerer, they said.

  • I see - Jack remained silent for a while - Can we take a sample of your blood and saliva? - he asked.

  • They are used for black magic. Why do you want them? - asked the man, scared.

  • You are in 2009, remember? Medical sciences have advanced a long way since your time. We are testing them to see if we can find what is causing your... problem - explained Ianto.

  • Alright, you can have them - said the man and Jack collected the samples while Ianto prepared coffee.
