Psmith leant over the tea-table, elbows propped up on the windowsill, waiting for a sight of The Ghost-Car. When he saw the red Volkswagen pull into the lot behind the brownstone, he straightened, seemed to apparate himself into the foyer, re-apparated on the top-floor landing again, rapped smartly at Jones' door, put his head to the keyhole, said firmly "It is time to go," and apparated back down to street level in time to open the door a split-second before Lulu knocked.
"Congratulations, darling," he said with a smile. She had only just passed her licensing exam.
