Wilson sipped his drink and tried to be interested in the floor, the glass, anything. All he wanted to do was be near House again.

Fuck it.

He stood and walked over to where Xander and House were seated, choosing to sit two stools away from them just in case he wasn't wanted. He let himself look at House then, taking a large swig of bourbon as he did so. Artificial bravery was a wonderful thing

*

"You can sit closer," House commented. "Pirate doesn't have any swords on him. And I won't bite." He grinned. He liked that Jimmy showed some balls and walked over. Good for him.

*

Wilson nodded, keeping his eyes trained on House the whole time. He moved to the stool directly to House's right and realized how fast his heart was beating.

"Paul," he called out, pointing to his glass. He was close enough to touch the man, and the fact that such a trivial thing had now become agonizingly precious required much more artificial bravery

*

"Don't drink that too fast, Jimmy. I'm not an ATM like you." House was not amused that Xander had taken to ingoring him. He demanded attention. "Pirate, what do you think of the misses?"

*

Xander raised his eyebrows. "He looks pretty manly for a 'misses'"

Yeah, he knew that was kinda nasty, but he'd had it. He was in a bad mood and now it looked like he was about to get in the middle of some sort of marital squabble. JOY.

*

"It's a relative term, to be sure," said Wilson flatly, smirking in House's direction. He liked Xander.

Or maybe he was just so overjoyed to have that familiar term returned to him that he liked everyone at this point. House was right: drinking fast wasn't a good idea right now. He smiled to himself and sipped from his glass.

*

"Relative to the fact he should've been born a woman," House said. "Well," He smiled, leaning over Wilson so he could face Xander. "He does have some attributes that are pure testosterone. The problem is he excels at things stereotypically assigned to the feminine gender -- like cooking, and cleaning, and caring, and nagging. Oh, lordy, Mr. Pirate. You should see the girl nag."

*

Wilson raised an eyebrow and narrowed his eyes slightly. "If I recall correctly, it's safe to say I excel at a few other things no female is capable of," he shot back, flashing a smug expression. God, how he'd missed this.

*

"They could if they owned a strap on."

*

"Not a chance," he replied, nearly smiling at this point. "Although, there's always the choice of compare and contrast."
