"How can you be lost? An hour ago, we were tall enough to see the entire park at a glance!"

"I don't see you finding the way."

"You won't let me look at a map!"

"We don't need maps." John looked around at the lush vegetation and the strangely secluded path. "Besides, this is Tom Sawyer's Island. Using a map here would be wrong."

Seriously, he didn't need a map. This wasn't exactly the field. He wasn't really lost. He just needed to get his bearings. Jones was kind of a wuss. In fact, now he plopped himself down on a stump, looking way too glum.

John stood there looking down at him. "Do you have to be such a baby?"

"I am not a baby. Do you have to be such an airhead?"

"Thumbsucker."

"Hairbrained." They glared daggers at each other. Then Jones closed his eyes, took a deep breath, opened them again. "Look, what did you want to talk about? We might as well, while we're sat here."

"I'm not sitting."

Jones just glared at him.

"Fine." John planted his ass on the stump next to Jones. They sat like that for a good long time.

"Well?"

John licked his lips. "Uh, here's the thing. So, uh, everything was great, right?" He stared straight ahead. "I mean, okay, my supposedly dead boyfriend was actually living in my head the whole time I was, uh..." He looked up and offered Jones a little smile. "You know. But I think we'd settled into something everyone could live with. Well--Rodney and me, anyway. Point is, I was working it out. But then you came along. And that just threw everything for a loop."

Jones said nothing.

"Now, I will admit that I probably didn't exactly give you a chance," John continued. "But it seems to me that for some reason, you didn't like me, either, from the start. What the hell's that all about?"
