Pets, Love and Life [COMPLETE]

Summary: Snape finally gets Harry his kitty
Harry could feel Snape right behind him as he turned the key in their apartment door, letting them both and their newest resident inside. He'd never had a normal pet before, Hedwig didn't count because no normal person had an owl as a pet and as much as he had loved her, it wasn't the same as getting a domesticated animal. He shrugged off his winter jacket and took off his mittens, jamming those into his jacket pockets before hanging it up in the closet.
He turned around with an excited smile, and took the pet carrier carefully from Snape and headed into the living room as Snape stamped the snow from his shoes. He set the plastic carrier on the floor and sat down in front of it, turning it so the cage door was facing him. Part of him wanted to wait for Snape to enter the living room as well before he introduced the tiny ball of fluff to their house, but he couldn't stand it. He lifted the latch and opened the cage door. Nothing came out.
Biting his lip, he lowered himself and looked into the carrier and saw the cat curled up at the back of it. He reached in and wrapped his hand carefully around the tiny creature before gently pulling it out of the cage. The little yellow-gold ball of fluff was trembling as he lifted it out with both hands and settled it down on his lap.
Harry hummed softly, running a finger down the tiny kitten's spine, feeling bad that it still shook.
