Having been called much worse things, Lorne let the implied insult slide like water off of a duck's feathers. "Did she then, Lambie?" This asked mildly. And pointedly used the particular nickname he liked for Billy the best. Still didn't know for sure. Or at all. But coincidences were..everywhere, apparently. Because he knew that Billy lived in Los Angeles as well.

"2004, Sunshine." The first question answered second as he turned back to Lulu with a smile. "New York! Oh. Fabulous city, I've heard. So many songs about it. And I loved LA. It was a good home." Was because where he came from.."My LA isn't what she used to be."

"Don't," Dr. Horrible growled, annoyed. Lambie. For God's sake.

And apparently Lulu, at least, did know where he'd come from. No point in denying it. "'S no worse than anywhere else," was his indifferent contribution. It wasn't saying much. Pretty much everywhere sucked, in his opinion.

"New York is pretty excellent. If you're a fan of the city, which a lot of people aren't. Have you never been to New York City? Oh, so you're not so far back, really."

Lulu bit her lip, looking at Dr Horrible. "Don't you have a favorite place?"

"Not too far back." Agreed with a laugh, "Not enough, anyway, to feel like Rip Van Winkle." Though it had still been a little disconcerting when he realised that he had traveled into the not-so-distant future. Especially considering he hailed a cabbie to do so! Dimensions and time warps. Gotta love them. "I love the city. Big crowds of people. Oh and Broadway.." Swoon!

He fell quiet, listening to Lulu and the Doctor absently. The thing about the Doctor bothered him still, but Lorne was content enough at the moment to let well enough alone. For now.

Dr. Horrible had been to New York, in his twenties. It had been much like Los Angeles, only dirtier, grimier, smellier, louder, and more crowded with little people going about their self-centered little lives. If that was possible. At least LA had sunshine. As for Broadway... He just wasn't a fan of musicals.

"Home," he replied curtly to Lulu's question. Where he could bury himself in his work and accomplish things, and pretend nothing outside the walls even existed. Maybe he should have said Washington DC or something else that would speak of his villainous lust for power, but he was frankly too worn out to think of a good lie. He really just wanted to be able to go home.

"Broadway is fantastic," she grinned at Lorne.

Turning to Dr. Horrible, Lulu muted her smile a bit. "Where's home? And don't say where the heart is."

That earned Lulu another glare. "Please. Like I would."

Obviously word hadn't gotten around of the incident that had landed him in here. His eyes flickered to the cracked, bloodstained goggles on the table beside his bed. "My lab was destroyed. The earthquake." An arrogant tilt of his chin so he could look down his nose at her, even lying down. "I'll rebuild - you'll never know where."

He chuckled, listening again. "I know someone who might have awkwardly stammered about that. The home in your heart thing." Not technically having a heart. Or a non-beating heart, at least. Heh.

Eyebrows lifted as the demon fell quiet for a moment. A laboratory might explain the extent of the doctor's injuries. "Hopefully you do get to." But he had hesitated saying it. Unlike if Fred had said something like that where he would have been enthusiastic.

"You don't intimidate me, you know," she said raising an eyebrow and putting a hand on her hip. Lulu Spencer was not easily intimidated. Especially when she was on a mission.

Dr. Horrible knew someone who had said it, in a context both idiotic and patronizing. So even if he had been the type to make cheesy declarations like that, he would have avoided that particular one.

"That makes you a fool," he informed Lulu quietly, then flicked his gaze back to Lorne. "And you should hope I don't. Once I've recovered from this little setback--" His voice was rising - or trying to rise, but it couldn't. Instead, it was catching, straining, the burn in his throat and lungs getting worse with every word. Now, though, he forced his way through them, disregarding the warning signs that he should probably shut up. "Once I've recovered, this town will- see what I'm- capable of. I'm- going to make- that earthquake- seem- like- nothingUltimatum delivered, and the urge to cough was out of control. He gave in to it: deep, tearing coughs that ripped their way out of his chest, shook his entire body and had his eyes watering with pain. He was aware that this was probably making them take his threats less than seriously, but ( ... )
