He coughed, grunting as he was suddenly on his feet and a twinge of pain poked sharply at his side. He looked up with a gasp trying to regain the oxygen in his lungs to see Carrot's face not far from his.

He gripped his shoulder and nodded coughing into his elbow. "I didn't...need those ribs anyway!" he huffed shaking his head clear and causing leaves to fall off where they had accumulated.

He then looked over at the monster. There were many fables about large black cats. From King Arthur to China it seemed they all had stories of the overgrown demon. They were almost always described as ministers of evil. That meant that the holy water compound in Abe's bullets would at least be able to wound the creature.

He touched his side not noticing Carrot's inner dilemma with his own thoughts bouncing and the pain becoming more evident as his body calmed down.

His hand brought back blue blood but he would have to assume that it was only flesh deep for now as he felt the cold gun's butt being pressed into his palm.

"Thank you, cap--Carrot," he said. "Please remain here." He put a hand to Carrot's chest and winced as he held the gun toward the feline.

"I am aware of a cat's fondness for fish," he said to the creature who was tracking him with his head, sniffing the air. Abe circled the cat until the attention was fully on him. "And while I'm flattered by the attention, I can't say I'm all too pleased with the intention. Come on. Just a little closer."

But instead of pouncing, as Abe had assumed the cat would do, the large black shadow swiftly opened his jaws, the teeth gleaming white and sharp, and struck at the comparatively small Icthyo Sapien.

Abe spared no time to fire into the creature's neck which caused it to rear up with a terrified and pained scream. A paw scraped toward Abraham's body and he leaped and rolled out of the way, an act that would have been far more graceful without cracked ribs. He stumbled backwards into a tree and held it for a moment while he caught his breath.
