Atonement, of sorts

Bod wasn't usually one to overreact to things. Okay, yes he was. Christmas dinner was not a scary experience, but it had nearly given him a meltdown-- because he'd let his insecurities overwhelm him. Since then, he'd tried not to let that happen, but bottling them up and ignoring them didn't seem to work any better. He hadn't allowed himself to realize how badly he felt about what had happened at karaoke until he'd hit the boiling point and lashed out at everyone. He'd had the sense to stop talking before he hurt someone who didn't deserve it, but as a result, Neil had dealt with a lot of the fallout. And he'd done it without complaint, again, like he always did.

Which is why, when he arrived home that evening, there was a card waiting for him in the middle of the immaculately clean kitchen counter. It ran, in Bod's unmistakeable handwriting:

I want you to meet me somewhere. When you're ready, my accomplice will take you there.

And, as if on cue, a tiny, purple-black hamster with red eyes scampered across the counter and sat next to the envelope. It washed its face adorably, then looked up at him, whiskers twitching.
