It wasn't until the weight of the coat hit her that something triggered.
The coat was warm.
Surely, since he'd been here, Alucard had offered his coat to her many times, but it always felt cool when he did. Even when Byron did the same, it felt that way. It was something that had become so commonplace that she hadn't really questioned it until she felt enveloped in someone else's warmth.
The last time she'd felt that...
The sudden memory caused her to slide a gloveless hand under her glasses as the tears fell of their own accord, despite how much she hated that she was not only weak, but weak in front of someone that used to be an enemy. It really shouldn't be so easy to break her, but lately...
"You have no idea," was her only response. Her voice, though exhausted, held no shaking hint of the tears that she was trying her best to stop -- a talent that she'd taught herself early in life and had proven quite useful in recent years -- though in those four words, she sounded for all the world like she had been lost.
