Hermione Granger sat at a table in the corner of the tea shop, as far away from the windows and the prying eyes of anyone else in the world as she could possibly get. She wasn't crying-- heaven help her, she wasn't going to cry-- but she really, really didn't want to see anyone just at the moment. She felt like anyone walking by could just look at her and tell, like she had a light-up sign over her head declaring "Unwed Mother" to the world around her.
And didn't that just figure? Why had she left in the first place? Partly because she'd been angry, but mostly because she was tired of waiting for Ron to come to his senses. She figured a little time away from him-- a little time-- might spur him to ask. Heaven knows she'd tried asking him, but after the second time he'd said he "wasn't ready", she swore that he was going to be the one to ask. When he decided to be ready, of course.
Had she been home right now, she was fairly certain that this might have been the deciding factor for him. Would he still have not married her, knowing that she was carrying his child? ...Could he?
She wasn't going to cry.
Instead, she took a sip of her tea. It was herbal, chamomile, and she'd ordered toast besides, though she hadn't eaten more than a bite or two. Besides the fact that her stomach was less than cooperative, she wasn't really in the mood to eat. Settling her cup into the saucer, she stared listlessly at the wall in front of her, wishing that tomorrow she'd wake up in London, beside her infuriating ginger lover, and she'd have found Harry in a place that wasn't Canada, five years in the future...
