Connor Temple was in way over his head.
The last time he'd tried to romance a girl, she'd finally kissed him only to leave him hanging. The time before that, she'd turned out to be a hired informant out to turn him in to those who wanted him and his friends dead. So yeah, maybe he was going a little over the top for a first date. But frankly, he was afraid not to be.
He'd done everything he could to make it a special evening. Maybe too special. Was there such a thing? Connor had gotten them on an afternoon train to Toronto, still refusing to tell Kimberly where they were going. "Now if you hate it," he told her once they were nearly there, "we'll go straight to plan B, but we'll be a little early for our reservations." Yeah, that was a hint. A nice restaurant, more upscale than the ones back in Aternaville, but not the sort that would cause her to wonder if he was insane when she saw the prices on the menu. Quite frankly, he was proud of his choice.
But getting off the train and making the short walk to the center left him anxious and not as talkative as usual. Kimberly wasn't like the girls he usually got on dates. The ones he chased after like a pathetic puppy, sure, but not the ones who actually agreed to go anywhere with him. This was probably so not her thing. But there was one thing he found incredibly romantic and if the two of them stood a chance at all, she would, too.
