Father Mulcahy loved wedding masses. They were his favorite ceremony to perform. He had done his research as Uther had requested, and the closest thing he could find to marriage rites of Uther's time were the vows from the Book of Common Prayer in the Anglican Church. So Father Mulcahy had gotten a copy from the library and was now standing at the front of the church, ready and willing to enter these two into holy matrimony.
"Dearly beloved friends," he began, "we are gathered together here in the sight of God and in the face of His congregation, to join together this man and this woman in Holy Matrimony, which is an honourable estate instituted of God in paradise, in the time of man’s innocence, signifying unto us the mystical union that is betwixt Christ and his Church; which holy estate Christ adorned and beautified with his presence, and first miracle that he wrought, in Cana of Galilee, and is commended of Saint Paul to be honourable among all men; and therefore is not to be enterprised, nor taken in hand, unadvisedly lightly or wantonly to satisfy men’s carnal lusts and appetites, like brute beasts that have no understanding; but reverently, discreetly, advisedly, soberly, and in the fear of God, duly considering the causes for which matrimony was ordained."
My, they spent a lot of time on lust in the early days.
