The King, for his part, was having some trouble with a pair of blue jays. They were following him; he did not know why.

He never knew why.

As he crossed the courtyard, ducking and waving his arms about in the air in an attempt to dissuade them, he spied an unfamiliar shape in the window.

And whoever she was, there were birds flying around her head as well. Uncertain whether to be alarmed or confused or , Uther picked up his pace and approached the window.

"You there!" he said loudly. "Who are you, and what is your business here?"

Giselle looked out the window, startled, and the bluebirds dropped their ends of the ribbon and hovered uncertainly, not sure if they should stay or go. Giselle gave them reassuring looks.

"Why, sir, I live here," Giselle said. "I am Giselle of Andalasia." She made her best curtsey. "May I ask who you are?"

OOC: That should be "alarmed or confused or relieved to see such an apparition" or something like that...

Uther's brow worked itself through a variety of expressions. In the end, it returned to confusion. He bowed a little, inclining a the shoulders. "Giselle of Andalasia, I am Uther Pendragon, King of Camelot, and lord of this place. How long have you been living here?"

Giselle let out a startled sqyeak. "Oh! Sire!" She curtseyed again, and deeper. "I've been living here...a few weeks? I believe I've met your son, if his name is Prince Arthur."

"A few weeks! How have you managed to evade me?" Uther asked, half in jest. Perhaps Arthur had asked this Giselle to stay in the castle. Although that was most likely more than he could hope for. "He is. Tell me, how did you like him?"

Giselle dimpled prettily. "Not on purpose, Sire, honestly!" She giggled a little. "I like him very much! He was very kind and entirely dignified."

There were times Uther thought he might disagree with the latter descriptor, but then, he was Arthur's father, and not a stranger. "Was he?" he said noncommittally.

Something dive-bombed the window, thumping squishily against the glass.

Uther frowned, trying not to look at the jay falling away from the window. He nodded at Giselle's bluebirds. "I want to ask you about those birds."

"He was," Giselle said a little dreamily. "Everything a prince should be." Did she have stars in her eyes? Was water wet?

"Oh!" Giselle held out a finger and the two bluebirds perched on it. She stroked their heads. "See how wonderful you are? Someone is asking about you?" She turned to Uther. "Yes! What about them?"

Her control over the little birds was extraordinary. Uther watched her interact with them. They seemed placid and docile. "How do you do that?" he asked.

Giselle smiled. "Well, I have an understanding with them, you see. When I need my animal friends, I call them. And when I don't, they go home." She tilted her head. "You can talk to animals, you know. They understand you even if you don't understand them. Just have a gentleness in your voice so you don't scare them."

"How does one establish such an understanding?" Uther supposed luring them in to be shot was not it, but he had felt he had little choice; they, after all, had begun to pester him first, and had proven unwilling to let him be. "I do not think that these animals are afraid of me."

He gestured towards the window, at which the blue jays were alternately tapping on the glass with their beaks.

Giselle turned to the window to see the blue jays. "Oh!" She smiled at Uther. "I'd be happy to do this for you."

She approached the window, opening it just enough to be heard. Then she smiled at the birds. "Hello. I know that you're friends with King Uther, but he really is very busy. It would be absolutely wonderful if you could come when he called you instead of following him around all the time. I know he would like that." She turned to Uther. "What would you like to do to call them? I'll have the jays spread the word to the other animals."
