Who: Barney and River
When: Saturday afternoon
Where: Ianto's coffee shop
What: The triumphant return of Barney Stinson

Barney Stinson answered to no one! He came and went as he pleased and had no care about who he left. Except, that wasn't particularly, completely true. He did have a care about who he left, but didn't say as much. A Bro never cries over those sorts of things. Maybe one manly tear but that was all! A Bro also never made a big stink when he was back (though he fully expected everyone else to). There was no big stink currently, which only offended the quasi-arrogant man slightly, but he got over it. Instead, in a well pressed suit as always, Barney was walking the quiet streets of the weird but quiet town. His jacket was slung over a shoulder and sleeves were rolled up, since it was quite warm. Who knew it got so warm here? Barney was intent on getting a cup of coffee. Mm. Coffee. And then? Then it was time for something...legendary.

There was no question where River's mind was concerned. She was focused. Somewhat. Unfocused in that strange way but she tried not to think too hard about it, which in itself was a challenge. She found her daily routines automatic, following through them bit by bit, keeping oddly quiet for fear of commanding someone to something which she did not intend.

Ianto's (because it was truly his, now) coffee shop was always a welcome distraction because of its familiarity, and when River spotted the back of a familiar head entering it just in front of her, her smile grew wider.

"Barnacle boy!"

It was Ianto's joint now! Good on him! Barney was impressed and was looking for the Bro in Suit-ages in order to say hello and congratulate him. And maybe score a free cup of coffee. But the voice caught his attention first. It sounded like..but no, couldn't be!

Turning around, Barney grinned knowingly. "Of course you missed me!" Never mind that River didn't say that at all. Barney knew that she did. Everyone did, right? Right! And, truth be told, he missed everyone here. It was weird, living in two worlds as he did. The idea of getting coffee was put on hold as Barney crossed the small area between him and River and gave her a hug in hello. "You can tell me how much I was missed as soon as we get something to drink."

"Muchly." River hugged back, her hands lacing tight around his middle. Barney wasn't the type for close embraces, so these small moments were appreciated. She closed her eyes and breathed in. He still smelled like arrogance and childhood, which was nice.

Hugging was not something he did often, no. It was..well, showing too much emotion was simply not done! Still, he figured that everyone might just get a single hug from him today since it was his triumphant return. Everyone, that is, if they were hot chicks. Ew. No hugging other bros. That broke Article number seventy-two! He lingered for a moment, letting River do her River-y thing, and then pulled away and steered her in the direction of the line.

He made a motion for River to order a drink while he looked around. "Ianto owns it now, huh? Good for him. What else has changed?" If anyone would know the changes, it would be River. Blue eyes dropped back down to her, boyish grin appearing as he wondered what sort of adventures the changes would afford him.

"Lots." Her fingers twirled with the hem of his blazer and her eyes darted away, refusing to make contact with his. She ordered a simple tea. Two sugars, no cream. "A wash of newness. Nightmares. Unfamiliar things...it's better you've been gone."

"New things aren't too bad, River. They're exciting and legendary!" Although he did give her a funny look at the statement of nitemares being around. Crazy town. "Maybe it's good I did skip that. If nitemares were coming true, all of my suits would have gross stains and holes!" Hah. Whether that would or wouldn't be the extent of his nitemares, River would probably know even better than Barney did. He ordered his coffee afterward and paid, then waited around for the drinks to come. "So how's the boyfriend?" Why was he asking about that? Barney cared yes, but it was a strange thing to just up and ask. He chalked it up to the happiness to be back and seeing River first. He liked her.

River looked away. She didn't answer the question, carefully picking up a hot mug of tea in her hands and moving to sit at a table. "How was your Other Home? Matters in order?"

The careful avoidance was noted, but he didn't press it. Instead, he talked about the subject he knew best. Himself. "Completely in order. So you're stuck with me for a while. Your birthday..." He took a sip, then lifted his eyebrows. "Has come early." Lucky her!

"Six months early." River smiled over her cup at him before looking back down, quickly. Then, softer, River asked again. "Why did you come back? Didn't have to. Little obligations."

Why did he return? He wasn't too sure on that himself yet, really. But the Barnacle would never say something so unsure and uncertain. It was very possible that the uncertainty was so deep that Barney didn't even know about it. Instead, he grinned and gave a mock nonchalant bit of a shrug. "I couldn't just leave the town all Barney-less. Who would the women chase after and baby Bros look up to?" Silly River. Barney seemed happy to be back, really.

It could have been because he had gotten rid of all that lovesick stuff too, though. No redheads. No journalists. Nothing but him and the ocean of women just begging to have a time with the man in the fancy suit.
