Cindy, plz :) lulu8889 May 17 2009, 02:41:22 UTC
Lulu walked up to the house alone, completely enthralled. She figured that Moira would be coming with Zak eventually, Richie had asked Dairine, and it was always fun to just make an entrance yourself. The only thing in the world that Lulu was never late to was a party. And most of the time it was because she had planned the parties. When she wasn't planning it, she was always overly enthusiastic to be there.

Arriving at just about seven, Lulu entered to the sound of music and people already there. She let out a low whistle. Who were all these people that she hadn't known were here? Twirling around in her dress to see everything, Lulu couldn't help but grin. This was magnificent.

Cindy just about squealed when she saw Lulu. Making her way to her, she gave her a matching grin. "Oh my goodness, you look absolutely gorgeous, Lulu. Oh, that dress is beautiful," she said as she admired it reverently.

The younger blonde beamed back at the hostess. "Thank you! It was just perfect. And yours! It's straight out of a storybook. There are so many people here already. I thought I was early, too."

"Oh, no you're just in time," she grinned. "Help yourself to something to drink," she said as she gestured to the bar. "Or something to snack on until dinner. And there are plenty of people here to dance with," she said with a wink.

Lily had arrived at Harry's house, fully decked out in a gown of her own choosing, and her hair done in simple waves.

"It's amazing the amount of parties that this town has," Lily said to her son as they were approaching the awe inspiring house.

Harry tugged on the knot of his tie, linking his arm through his mothers. She looked beautiful, and he felt like an idiot playing dress up. It wasn't much different than any other night. He patted his hair down nervously as they neared the house.

"It's a bit ridiculous."

Of course, Harry hated these types of things, but he wanted to spend time with his mother, and she did like these parties. It had been logical at the time.

"Two balls in the time I've been here is ridiculous enough," Lily laughed, walking with her son to the entrance. After they were announced, Lily almost let out a laugh. "Old school ball. Just like the movies I watched when I was little."

Lily did like these parties. She was not certain why, she just...enjoyed being out. Enjoyed seeing the people in the town. And when Lee was here, she enjoyed being with him. Now she was just enjoying spending time with her son.

Harry smiled. Sometimes he forgot it hadn't been a very long time since his mother's arrival. She seemed to have been here for so much, but, in reality, she hadn't.

"I bet."

He let her lead them further into the room, keeping an eye out for Moira or Lulu.

Mary had heard about the ball through word of mouth...or word of journal, or whatever you called it...and she had decided, somewhat uncharacteristically, to go. It wasn't that she didn't like social functions--it was simply that, being a not-very-tall woman, she had a difficult time finding dresses that she didn't trip over.

Mary had found a stunner for this party, though. And red was just her color. She showed up at the ball nervously, uncertain what would happen.

Dick stood forlornly by the wall, watching the humans arrive and sipping delicately at a flute of champagne. It reminded him of Mary. He wondered what she was doing now, and whether she was worried about him. Whether any of them were worried about him. But, he knew, at home, Sally had probably taken over the role of High Commander with relish, and whipped the mission into shape; and Mary would probably be happy to have her office free of his presence and its daily reminder of what she had lost in losing him ( ... )

That voice. It couldn't be. But it had to be. And it was.

Mary looked up to see Dick hollering her name. After an unsuccessful week in Aternaville...at least, unsuccessful socially...it was a relief to see someone, anyone, she knew. She'd had a feeling that if something strange was going on, he must be here.

"Dick!" Mary squeaked, purposely ignoring the comment about her style of walking for the moment. "What are you doing here?" Her defenses down, she threw her arms around him.

Surprised by the hug, Dick nonetheless took the opportunity to embrace Mary in return. He figured she would be mad at him again soon enough, and no chance to hug should be lost.

But what to say about her question? "What are you doing here?" he asked to deflect.

Richie entered the ball with Dairine, having met her beforehead and also having presented her with a corsage, and his mouth dropped open as he saw the surroundings. "Oh...oh, wow...this is so amazing..."

He looked at Dairine and smiled. "Thanks for agreeing to come with me, Dairine. I'd feel really out of place if I'd come alone."

Dairine certainly wasn't dressed in the usual ball attire. In fact, her outfit made the corsage look even more out of place. She wore the jeans she'd arrived in (minus grass stains), a faded Star Wars tee shirt, and a men's blazer about a size and a half too big. ("Hey, it's formal!" she argued.)

She waved off Richie's thanks. "Hey, don't sweat it. I'm starving anyway." Truthfully, this setting was not something Dairine was comfortable with. At all. She'd never been that girl, who loved looking pretty in a dress. In fact, she'd rather be at home, reading.

Richie was just enough out of his time not to be sure whether or not Dairine's clothes were appropriate ball clothes. He had a sneaking suspicion they weren't, but given that Dairine didn't seem to be the type of person who enjoyed dances, he certainly wasn't about to say anything. It was rude to invite a girl somewhere and then complain about what she wanted to do or how she wanted to dress.

"Oh," Richie said, a little startled by Dairine's bluntness. "Sure." He cleared his throat. "Would you, would you like me to get you something?" He suspected that dancing was out of the question. There were times when Richie felt as if he were from a whole other planet than girls, and this was one of those times.

Well, Richie was certainly a gentleman. Dairine would be in full-on complaint mode if not for the table filled with tiny little cheese things and mini sandwiches. (What was it with balls and miniaturized foods?) She blinked at Richie, incredulous. "Uh. No, no, you don't have to get me anything. Seriously, you can just chill, or...dance...or...something."

Obviously, Dairine wasn't quite comfortable with the whole formal thing either.

When Cindy had mentioned having a house built, and throwing a party, Bod had said it sounded like fun. When she posted the invitation that it was a 'ball' and not a regular party, he'd done the research. He'd even enlisted the aid of an expert-- well, someone far more expert than he-- to help him find something suitable to wear. And now he was here.

Only... she'd said 'house.' This wasn't a 'house'. This was more of an... estate. A sprawling compound. A... dare he say it? A castle.

Well, he told himself, balls were generally thrown at castles. Nevertheless he found himself staring up at the immensity of the place in a mixture of awe and horror. Was he really going to go in to this extreme place, completely out of his element, full of many people he probably didn't know?

Well, Owens, best foot forward. Taking a deep breath, he headed for the front door.
