It was worse, this time, than it had been after Aurelius had died. Waking up in this prison of a castle. Reeling from what had happened in another world what felt like only yesterday.
This time he was hollow. Empty. Uther couldn't feel the pain he knew was there because there was not enough of him left to feel it.
So he went for a walk.
Out, out of his chamber, out of the castle, out past the walls and the wood and the park he walked until he came to the town he had seen from a distance, the place that was stranger still than the castle that had held him.
And he looked at it. And it meant nothing to him.
