Here , have an Admiral. Sorry for the wordy and rather lengthy post ;)oldmanadamaApril 14 2009, 11:50:30 UTC
It didn't take that long for Bill to show up at the apartment, after the encounter with Starbuck and Zak. He'd arrived in town dressed in his uniform, and he hadn't felt up to checking in on the job he apparently had yet. Gods. A judge - Joe Adama would have been proud (and possibly laughing).
And if Bill didn't feel up to checking in at the courts, then he certainly wasn't ready to go down to the cabin to retrieve clothing and other items. The place would just feel...empty. Which was part of the reason why he was even considering moving in with his son. The other was that he figured Zak probably needed the company, after Lee had apparently disappeared too.
Still, he couldn't help feeling a little nervous (like being shot out the launch tubes for the first time), as he knocked on the door.

The knock came as a bit of a surprise, considering that he hadn't really expected Bill to knock. So, after handing Tam over to Moira (having still been playing with her), Zak got up to answer it.
He smiled sheepishly upon seeing his father, a hand coming up to rub the back of his neck. "You don't have to knock, Pop." Reminded with a lift of his eyebrows. Then he leaned in and gave a one-armed hug. "Good to see that you're taking up my offer."
..apparently he had a lot to say?:PoldmanadamaApril 14 2009, 14:23:23 UTC
"Forgive an old man, son. Been a while since we've had to deal with doors that aren't hatches," Bill joked. Then his arm came around Zak, returning the hug. "Didn't have anywhere else better to be," he said, a smile tugging at the corner of his lips. "Haven't really got much to move in," he said, arm still around Zak. "And I didn't want to go back to the cabin to..." he swallowed. "You know. So, I figured I'd drop by." He looked at his son. "I'm not interrupting anything, am I?"
Digesting the news that the first Earth wasn't Earth and was destroyed, she contemplated as Zak handed her Tamara and went to get the door. She was curious as to whether this was in her past or future, actually.
Moira heard Bill's voice and peeked her head round the corner, still holding Tamara. When Tamara caught sight of Bill, along with hearing his voice, the little girl let out a squeal of delight. Someone had missed her parents.
"Not interupting," Moira smiled as Tamara tugged on her hair.
Now, here were two faces he recognised from his dreams/memories/whatever the frak they were. "You're Zak's girl," he said. "Moira, isn't it? My memory is still a little wonky, I'm afraid." And then, he saw the baby in her arms, and his face softened. "Hey there, little lady."
Bill reached out with a free hand (the one that wasn't full of Zak), and was surprised as Tamara gripped one of his fingers. "She's bigger than I remember," he couldn't help commenting.
Moira flushed a bit, nodding. It was very odd having Bill not remember everything. And she wanted to ask about Laura but...She just wasn't sure.
"Moira, yeah. Wonky memory. I'm not certain, but there could be something that I could do." Except she wasn't certain exactly what was wrong with Bill's memory and that it wouldn't be better left alone.
"You remember her, though? Would you like to hold her?"
Bill settled himself down on the couch. "I'd love to," he told Moira. "It's probably a bit wonky, because I remember living here, and at the same time living on Galactica. Just a matter of getting used to things again." Still an odd feeling, but it was getting better. More familiar. "I remember you, Zak, Tamara, Kara, Lee, Jake and La--" He paused. "Well, most things."
"How do you live on three Earths at the same time, Pop? And..how are neither of the Earths you found this Earth?" He had more questions, but those were the most pressing two.
Strike that. When Bill paused on Laura's name, Zak lifted his eyebrows slightly. "I know Laura didn't come back with you..but what happened?" He asked gently.
Moira was curious about these questions, too. So, handing Tamara to Bill as he settled on the couch, she moved back toward Zak, taking his hand.
What did happen to Laura? Moira was concerned about her friend. It wasn't like her to not be here. And the feelings she was picking up from Bill were not even remotely pleasant. Moira refused to entertain the thought of Laura not being around permanently. Or that something bad had happened to her. Silently, her eyes flickered to her feet before back to Bill.

It had been a while since Bill had held a child in his arms. Yet Tamara didn't seem to mind, as she settled comfortably in the crook of his arm.
"It's a long story," he began. "You know that the fleet was looking for Earth, as it was supposed to be the home of the lost Thirteenth Tribe of Kobol?" After he'd suggested the idea - even though at the time he had no thought that it might actually be real. "Well, eventually, we found it. Or rather, Kara did." When they'd all thought she was dead. Or maybe she really was? Gods knew - because he certainly didn't
( ... )
She listened quietly to the story, taking it all in. It was all fascinating and confusing and tragic. An entire race nuked.
But when he mentioned Laura, Moira's breath caught. Unconsciously, she squeezed Zak's hand a bit, still quiet. Moira wasn't one for complete denial but to imagine Laura being gone was not quite bearable. Aternaville brought so many people back from death. There was no telling if Laura would come back. But the witch didn't say anything and merely stood there solemnly. Her friend was gone. And not in the way that this town managed to make people leave. In a different sense. A (possibly) more permanent one.
Moira thanked the Goddess for Zak's hand or else she felt like she'd just float away.
Bill noticed Moira's hand in Zak's, It was good his youngest had found someone here. And Moira, from what little he could piece together presently, was a good girl.
"Her cancer returned," he told them. It was a shame that Moira's treatment did not survive when they were returned back to Galactica. "Laura was a fighter, but eventually, the treatments stopped. And things got worse." He held Tamara tightly - in an odd way, she was a link to Laura, and the life they had shared the last time they were here.
He looked down at the sleeping child. "When we came to that second planet, she..." he swallowed. "...left quietly, and at peace." So peaceful, he didn't even know she had gone, until it was too late.
Bill looked down at the place where his wedding ring had been (strangely pleased by the fact that it was absent), before glancing back up at Moira and Zak. "Sorry," he said. "I didn't mean to burden you with all this."
He squeezed Moira's hand while listening to Bill, facial features furrowing as the elder Adama spoke. Then, after another brief squeeze to his girlfriend's hand, Zak let go to sort of awkwardly touch his father's shoulder.
"You're not burdening us, Pop." He said in quiet reassurance.
Moira shook her head slightly, clasping her hands together in front of her. "No, not burdening," she replied quietly. The one thing that she'd never fully been able to come to terms with was death of loved ones, despite the fact that they were supposed to be returned to the God and Goddess. Moira counted herself selfish in that sense. So while she was glad that Laura left peacefully, she was just as sad and angry that she'd had to leave at all. Call it wavering faith. She felt similarly when her father had died.
Bill looked over at them gratefully. He reached out to Zak, squeezing his son's hand in return. "Thanks, you two," was all he said. "And I apologise if I seemed a little cryptic earlier." He just didn't want to think about it. But somehow, talking it through seemed to help.
"I think we could all do with a drink." He looked over at Zak. "What have you got in that fridge of yours, son?"

Then Zak just sort of watched as Tam grabbed his finger, and lifted his eyebrows when Bill remembered. Or sort of remembered, anyway.
