"No!" Arthur's gaze narrowed in false aggravation. Damn it, of course he was scared of this. Partly of Merlin as well, if it wasn't for the look of absolute insolence, Arthur would be demanding he be set down.

NOW.

"Of course, I'm not."

Merlin grinned wider, eyebrows lifting. "Right. Of course not."

As they rose several more inches, Merlin let them slow to a gentle drift. He tugged Arthur close again, knowing he really should be taking advantage of Arthur's obvious fear, and taunting him the way Arthur would him. But instead, he found himself smiling into Arthur's neck and tightening his arms. "Don't worry, Arthur. I won't let you fall."

"You had better not," Arthur huffed, unclenching his fingers when their movement stilled. He had climbed higher than this. That didn't make him feel any safer without something solid beneath his feet.

Merlin's feet did not count.

"I won't," Merlin assured again. "I promise. But em-- I do want to just... try something."

Before Arthur could respond, he removed his arms from around Arthur and backed away from the embrace. "Just trust me, alright?" He warned as he did so. His grip now remained only on Arthur's upper arms. Then he moved his hands carefully down to take Arthur's tightly.

They were standing-- well, floating-- apart now, connected only by Merlin's hands holding Arthur's. It was a lot easier to navigate through the air if his face wasn't buried in Arthur's shoulder.
