Ianto was never satisfied with just one thing to do. He loved the coffee shop and he loved taking care of Jack (technically two things to do) but he also had his pet projects (and visiting Tosh in the library with her favorite drink). He had a folder in his arms, filled with theories and ideas and imaginings about this town and also, embarrassingly, with doodles and hearts and names.

He stopped short at the sight of goldfish finning lazily through thin air and smiled to himself. "Miss Delirium? And Barnabus, unless I'm mistaken. How are you?"

The girl smiled even more brightly when she realised that it was Ianto who made the movements and created the shadows that were proper sizes. "Tut tut, looks like rain!" A point to the sky while Barnabas gave a quiet doggy noise in greeting and answer to his question.

"We are wells. Wishing wells, maybe! Wishes in copper and silver." She hopped down one of the steps to meet him halfway and looked up. "How is Yantos and warmth in cups?"

Rain? Really? Ianto held a hand out, palm up, fingers outstretched as if welcoming a drop or two. When nothing turned up in his hand, he pulled it back. "Does sort of look like it might rain, but it's holding off. I'm well enough," he replied, smiling down at the girl with the lava hair. "Were you visiting the library?" He never really knew how to treat Delirium, when they talked. Half the time he reverted back to how he treated his nephews. So far, it seemed to work.

Well, maybe no rain yet. But soon. Perhaps. Or maybe it was already raining for Delirium. One never knew. She watched in wry amusement as he offered his hand toward the sky and waited. "Not here yet. Rains elsewhere in city. Or maybe people hope for it?" Mm. Then he spoke about the library and she nodded.

"The house of books also houses Dels. Cozy-warm and with lots of friends." It worked, his treating her like he treated his nephews. She knew his intentions were well-meant. And besides, it was sometimes entertaining observing how much like a child people treated her when she was older than all of them put together.

Of course, she only thought about that at random moments. Now, was not one of those moments. The goldfish swam through the loosely tied bows of her sneakers, air fish as they were, and then started lazily making their way back toward the library. "Visits with books and words..and people, too."

"It doesn't house Del right now. Though, I have friends who work there. If you spy a petite woman with dark hair and glasses, that's Toshiko. Just between you, me and Barnabus, she's a genius. Were you headed anywhere?" Because otherwise Ianto was going to sit down on the steps to the library and stretch his legs out.

And, well, she acted young and he acted much much older. It was to be expected, wasn't it?

"Every where is a house." She started, but then got distracted. "Genius Toshiko. Conversations nice but busy-busy." Busy being a genius. Del did though, make a note to remember the woman.

"Every where. No where. Walking is fun in houses. Sitting comfortably fun for talks."

"Everywhere's a house, but not a home," he countered and sat himself down on chill concrete, at least till his bum went numb. "Yes, Tosh is always busy, but that's just how she is. I think she'd be calculating velocities and vectors on water skis on holiday." But he said it fondly.

"So. What've you been up to, beyond visiting the books?"

She sat beside him, giggling while the fish disappeared into lava-moving hair and Barnabas snuffled slightly before lying beside them all. "Houses and homes. Boxes and warmth." That was the difference, wasn't it? "I like my boxes comfy-cozy warm."

"Making sure trouble doesn't follow. Already have one dog, no need for others. Very stressing for some here." But she didn't know why. Or what for. "Too many swirls and people don't like chaos." She swung her legs a little, "Yanto, your calm is still there?"

"Trouble isn't necessarily a dog, though," he said, a touch confused. Ianto looked away at her question, though, hands clasped between his knees and his folder of doodles and projects set to one side. Is his calm still there?

"I suppose, but there's tension in the air in a way that wasn't about, before. It's a subtle thing. Why? What do you know?

"Sometimes it's a shapely non-shape thing." Agreed. Not always a dog. Just the best analogy. She was distracted, watching him set his projects to one side. The doodles were what caught her eye.

She moved a hand, turning it subtly just so in order to turn her head and see it in one angle and then the other.

Tension. "Um." What did she know? "Madness gets mad some of the time. Triangles being squeezed into squares. New shapes not liked." She dug in her pockets, looking for her bubbles as she spoke. "Old shapes not liked."

The doodles were ridiculous. There was a pteradactyl, scrawled and messy in the corner, random scribbles and lines, a few neat rows of stars and a circle of hearts. Ianto Jones felt at that moment rather like a teenaged girl caught in her first crush. Or what he imagined one might feel like.

"You're .. upset?" That's what he got from her explination. "Old shapes. I'm not sure I understand."

She had been giggling, liking the doodles. But didn't say anything else about them. Instead, she shook her head. "Not me." Replied with a smile. "Others. Madness not just Del-shaped!" Well, it was..but it was in other people. She thought on that.

"Mm," Trying to explain herself better would be difficult. "Shapes. Yanto-shaped, River-shaped.." Shapes and people, people and shapes. "Old shapes. New shapes!" Then lava hair moved and swayed, as if to indicate a head bob that never happened. "Shapes not always blocks and don't make pretty castles together." People didn't always get along.

"Oh! The people already here don't seem to like the people coming in. I understand. Though. Of all the new people I've only met one. Endora." Honestly, though, Ianto wasn't an old hand himself. He's been here seven going on eight months. Not really all that long at all.

"What's been going on? I haven't heard much. But then I've sort of been hiding under a rock with my comfortable life." He was going soft. Ianto would have known things before all on his own.
