Zak had headed over to pick up Moira at eight and the two of them had insisted that Lulu and Clarice join them on the way over.

Wisely, Moira wore a coat from the time Zak had arrived, so he hadn't seen her in her dress yet. He could however see her completely pulled back hair (something he would have to thank Lulu for later), as well as her shoes, which brought her already formidable height up a few more inches, and jewelry. The coat was longer than the dress itself. She'd kept the gift for him in her purse until later.

Lulu had taken Clarice by the arm as they had headed out. She was in a dress reminiscent of the forties with her blonde hair teased to match the correct era.

"Isn't this going to be awesome?" Lulu said to Clarice as she put some of the things she and Kaylee had baked onto a table.

There wasn't much Clarice could do with her hair, but Lulu had helped her pick her out a pretty blue dress and she wore matching sparkly earrings in her pointed ears.

She helped Lulu arrange the confections with the ease of several months of practice at the bakery, sneaking looks around at all the wonderful clothes. "Mm," she agreed softly. "I think... it's going to be fun." Moira and Zak were here together, which made Clarice happy, and she was enjoying seeing all the other couples around.

Lulu grinned. "Exactly. It will be lots of fun. And you look beautiful, Clarice!" Lulu looked around. They were a bit early, but it was perfectly fine.

Clarice blushed. "Oh no. I mean... not like you do, and Moira. I do like my dress though." She brushed her hand over the skirt lightly. Dressing up always made her self-conscious, but everyone here was so fancifully dressed, she would have felt more out of place wearing everyday clothes!

"Seriously, Clarice! You look gorgeous. More than me. Moira's glowing with love, so we can't really compete with that. But honestly." Lulu grinned.

Clarice giggled at the 'glowing with love' comment, hiding it quickly behind her hand. "You're being nice. I mean, not about Moira, though. They do look nice, don't they?"

"I'm being completely honest. Whether it's nice or not is a different story," she laughed. "They do. It's good to see her so happy with someone." Moira deserved it. Especially as she'd been more alone her for longer than a lot of people. Lulu had been able to get home if she wanted. And then Maxie'd come to town. Clarice was alone as well, but Moira'd been here for...almost two years? A year and a half at least, and with no one from her world. She and Zak were adorable. "Nice and completely adorable. And in love. It's great."

Clarice didn't think of herself as alone. Not by a long shot. It was true that she missed her parents terribly. It was true that Mr. Zane had filled a hole in her life that she'd scarcely been aware of, and it was true that she missed him, too. But she had so many friends here, so many people she loved who wouldn't let her doubt that they cared for her too. How could she be alone? She was just happy to see her friends happy.

And happy to change the subject away from herself.

"It's wonderful," she agreed, hands clasped in front of her as she covertly watched the pair. "I'd - I'd like to find somebody to love like that, someday." It was a wish that never would have seemed possible, before Aternaville. Now - well, she didn't imagine it would be easy, but if she was patient, then just maybe...

The blonde nodded. "It would be nice to find that again," she replied as Moira was grinning stupidly at something Zak said. Or just his general presence. Lulu couldn't see from here exactly. Either way she was happy as long as Moira was. She liked Zak, and so long as he didn't break her friend's heart, she would continue to like him.

"I'm sure you'll find someone, Clarice. It's just a matter of them getting here. I mean, look at the two of them. They're perfect for each other. I can't wait till he gapes when she takes her coat off." As of yet, the witch had refused to, so it seemed. Ha. The dress was awesome. Lulu's gaze on the two was much less covert than Clarice's. She could do covert when absolutely necessary, but when it came down to it, subtlety was not Lulu's strong suit.

Clarice reddened, but giggled. Moira's dress really was something else. She looked stunning in it, but Clarice would have died if Lulu had tried to get her into something like that! Their housemate wasn't one to flaunt herself, so Clarice wasn't surprised that she was reluctant to take off her coat. Even now the mutant girl couldn't figure out how Lulu had talked Moira into it.

But Zak was going to gape, no doubt.

"Oh, you will, Lulu. Of course you will." Who wouldn't fall in love with Lulu? She was pretty and sweet and bubbly and fun and affectionate and caring, and she seemed to be close with just about everyone in town.

Lulu laughed. It was fantastic to see Clarice having fun. And at the pronunciation that she'd find someone to love, Lulu just shrugged. Before Psmith she didn't think it was possible for her. Other people, yes. But her? Not so much. Perhaps that was why Lulu had taken to playing matchmaker...

Chuck was feeling a bit nervous, fidgeting and adjusting the collar of the vintage coat he'd borrowed, along with the proper slacks, shirt, and bow tie, of course. It wasn't really the clothes that were making him nervous, though- Chuck just wasn't really a 'dance' sort of person.

But, that pretty Lulu girl had encouraged him to try and get out more, and this definitely counted as a social event. So, here he was, attempting to be social.

Scanning the room as he entered, Chuck caught sight of two familiar faces, and grinned, approaching Clarice and Lulu.

"Hi," Chuck smiled, glancing over the two ladies, stunned at how amazing they both looked. "You all look beautiful," he managed, a blush rising in his cheeks.

"Hi, Chuck! You look fantastic!" Lulu grinned, not quite surprised that he'd come. She was pleased. He seemed very nice. "You know Clarice?"

"Hi," Clarice offered shyly. She assumed that the 'beautiful' comment was directed toward Lulu, of course, but it was very sweet of him to include her. She gave him a small smile, but spoke to Lulu. "Mr. Chuck came into the bakery. A- a week or so ago. You too," she added to Chuck, ducking her head. "Look really nice. How are you?"

Chuck blushed and tried to shrug off Lulu's "fantastic", but was caught even more off-guard by Clarice's "Mr. Chuck".

"Oh, don't call me 'Mr.' anything," Chuck smiled, looking at Clarice pleadingly. "I can't be that old yet, I don't think!"

He turned back to Lulu, smiling.

"Clarice served me some wonderful pie and a very enlightening conversation, as well," he told her. "We are good friends now."

Well, on the way, at least.

Lulu laughed. "That's great! Clarice is wonderful. Friends are awesome. So you decided to come to this after all?" The blonde grinned again at Chuck and Clarice's blushing.
