Owen hadn't intended to be late. But with Ianto (and their misguided adventures) things tended to go into the wee hours of the morning.
Coming home, though, was a good feeling. And he pushed open the door, tired and aching and just glad to have a warm flat. That was one of the perks of living with someone -- home was always warm.
He dropped his keys on the table, sliding out of his jacket, when he noticed the light still on. Frowning, he checked his watch, roaming further into the apartment to see Tosh. "You still up?"
Tosh heard the door opening, setting her book down and looking up as Owen entered the room.
"I took the day off tomorrow," she explained. Normally, she was in bed by this time, and up fairly early to open up the library. "I went to go surprise you at the bar, but you weren't there," she said, biting her lip worriedly. "Not getting up to any trouble, were you?"
"Trouble? Me?" Owen grinned as he approached her, ducking his head a little to kiss her cheek. "Honestly, where would you get such a ridiculous idea?" He avoided it, obviously. There was no need to bring Tosh into this mess.
"Oh, yes, because you and Ianto never get up to any trouble," she said, smirking a little, and shifting on the couch so he could sit beside her.
"It's just- I feel like I haven't seen you in weeks. Well, I mean, I saw you that week while you were ten, but that wasn't really all that much fun for me," she admitted. "Not that you weren't an adorable kid. But the conversation was somewhat lacking."
"I was ten. I had my own issues to deal with." Owen took his seat beside her, curling an arm around her smaller waist. It was nice, how he fit around her. How comfortable it felt. He leaned in closer, and in a warmly intimate gesture pressed his lips to her hair. "I'm sorry we keep missing each other."
"Oh, just...that. Helping people." That was most certainly a little too vague. Owen squeezed lightly against her side. It's not that he didn't want to tell her about Chloe and their valiant quest to help her -- he just didn't think it was a good idea. "You want to go to bed? It's pretty late."
"I'd kind of like to talk," Tosh admitted, biting her lip. Owen wasn't really much of a talker, she knew- though, he had gotten better about talking to her, at least in recent months.
"Who have you been helping? Any interesting crazy people I need to stay away from?" She joked, trying to make it a bit easier for him to talk.
So it wasn't going to be that easy. He settled back into the couch with a little sigh, tugging her closer if he couldn't push her away. "Well, Ianto and I went out to the edge of town, today. That Rift monitor you fixed up led us there. It's where we think the shockwave started that turned everyone into children."
Mention of the Rift monitor caused a slight eye-roll from Tosh- Owen had sworn up and down that he just wanted it to work, not that he would actually do anything with it.
"So, getting into trouble," Tosh grinned, shaking her head a bit. "What did you find, though?" Trouble or not, Tosh was intrigued by this crazy town, and wanted to know what had caused Owen and Ianto become children.
"Nothing much, really." Owen rubbed his fingers in light little circles over her hip and waist. He was thinking -- and when Owen tried to think his way out of situations, he had a tendency to get restless.
"The monitor just spat out some weird readings. Really it was just an excuse for guy-talk."
Tosh was more than a little suspicious of Owen's claims, but wasn't about to start complaining when his fingers were moving like that.
"So what have Ianto and Jack been doing?" She inquired, leaning her head against Owen's shoulder. "And what sort of weird readings?" She added, her curiosity getting the best of her.
"They've been well enough, I suppose. You ought to get out of that little library of yours and see the world for a change." Spoken with a little smile as he kissed her hair. "You know I love the sexy librarian as much as the next man, but come now."
He could move his hand a bit more, over her waist and up her side, all in the hopes of distracting her from this potentially dangerous line of thought. "The usual sort. Beeps and squiggles. We didn't quite figure out what it did. Only that it has sort of the same power as the thing in the ravine."
"Well, there is another dance next week," Tosh said, a note of hinting in her voice.
Still, she was not to be deterred from Owen and Ianto's adventuring.
"Well, hopefully not the same power," Tosh replied, worried about what had happened when they'd tried to investigate that. "But interesting. Maybe you can invite me next time?" she grinned, a bit disappointed that Owen hadn't thought to ask her. "Amazingly enough, I do like spending time with you."
"I'll be there." Owen smiled at her. He'd be a bit late, due to...circumstances. But he'd be there.
He rolled his eyes and pulled away from Tosh long enough to grab at the bottle of wine. "I like spending time with you too! But what part of 'guy talk' don't you understand?" He wasn't frustrated -- he just didn't want to talk about this. Why did Toshiko have to ask so many questions?
The honest truth was that Tosh sort of missed it. There had been times at Torchwood when Owen hadn't censored himself- it didn't matter who was around- her, Ianto, Jack- and she had been like one of the guys.
Still, though, she wouldn't trade then for now for any amount of money, and dealing with occasionally being left out of the loop was a small price to pay.
"Alright, alright," she conceded. "No more prying into the guy talk." She let the silence sit for a moment before smiling at him.
"What about crazy bar patrons? Seriously, anyone I need to be on the lookout for?" She smiled, letting him know she was teasing.

"So, what have you been doing lately?" Tosh asked, feeling more than a little out of the loop. "Just serving up lots of drinks and advice?"
