The one thing Koschei hated was getting woken up before he was supposed to be in class. The young Gallifreyan grumbled and sat up, rubbing at his eyes.

Something was wrong. Something was so terribly wrong.

It wasn't that he was in a bed far too grand to be in a dorm room at the Academy.

It wasn't that the silk pajamas didn't fit him.

Everything was too quiet. He was all alone in his mind.

"Simon!" River was beginning to panic as she ran down the hall stumbling over pajama pants that threatened to slip and slide off with every step. The mansion was large, scary, and unfamiliar, teeming with silence.

But someone was here. River knew it. Small hands closed around a doorknob and she peered inside. "...Simon?"

"What's with all the shoutin'?" Rose rubbed her eyes as she shuffled down the hallway toward the source of noise that had woken her rudely from her sleep. It wasn't her mum, yelling that she'd be late for school. That much she could tell on her own.

Her blue eyes were wide as she walked through one of the fanciest houses she'd ever been in, and she couldn't help touching everything she passed. Could she have slept walked here? It was possible to do that right? The telly had a special on sleep problems, and people did honest to god sleep walk, so why couldn't she have?

But that didn't exactly explain where she'd gotten this really fuzzy bathrobe, nor where she got these ace pajamas she had on beneath them. Everything was a bit too big for her, but not by much, a few extra inches of fabric here or there that made everything on her baggy.

When she finally reached the end of the hall, she spotted another girl peering into a doorway, and hurried to talk with her. Maybe she knew where they were.

Not that Rose was in a rush to leave."

Koschei climbed from the bed and padded to the window, pulling the curtains open so he could look out. This was not Gallifrey. Somehow he had been taken from home in the middle of the night. Was this another of their tests?

The opening of the bedroom door had him turning. "Who are you?" He tried to summon up all of the authority he could muster. He was from Gallifrey. Training to be a Time Lord. He would conduct himself as such.

Oh, no. There were two of them.

The Doctor's initial thought still held true. This was very bad. The town was crawling with confused children with a few frazzled adults mixed amongst them. Whatever they had done, and it was as much his fault as Chloe's, time was turning around on itself.

He made a beeline for the Mayor's Mansion, needing to check on Rose, the Master and River. He popped his head into the Mayor's office, to find a child who looked very much like the Master's secretary being comforted by the maid.

The Doctor took the stairs two at a time up to the living quarters. He heard the squabbling before he even reached the Master's room.

Not good.

When he stepped into the room, he had to hold back a laugh. It wasn't funny, it really wasn't, but he couldn't help the huge grin.

"Well look at you lot," he beamed at all of them.

River was the first to turn and face him, long hair whipping about her as she stared up at the tall man, fiercely indignant -- resolute assertiveness in every inch of her.

"Excuse me, but do you know what has happened?" She looked down again at the baggy pajamas, then to the other two children. "We seem to have been displaced. Everyone's lost."

"River," Rose tightly admonished, staring at the man who seemed to know them with distrustful eyes. She'd never had a little sister before, and she didn't really know River beyond a brief hello, and hey! you don't own the place, but she still trusted her more than the bloke with wild hair.

Even if he was cute. "You don't talk to strangers, yeah? It's dangerous."

Koschei's eyes snapped away from the two girls to the man coming through the door. He knew he had been coming even before he had gotten there. The feeling of his mind was familiar and comforting. And he let his own mind drift outwards. It was a tentative brush. Not the sure and strong touch he would gain once he grew older.

"You're a Time Lord." Koschei scrambled from the bed, hiking up the legs of his silk pajamas so he could walk. "Did you bring me here to test me?"
